Looking to try somewhere different. I've camped at the following: Wind Creek Desoto Cheaha Guntersville Oak Mountain Tannehill Brierfield
Ideally want a lake or stream for the boys and friends to fish and explore.
Know there many other options but really don't know anything about them. Suggestions?

Here are some not far from where we live. I don't know what all you want to have available within a reasonable distance, though. Frank Jackson State Park - Opp (5 minutes from town, mostly a fishing only lake, but does have a swimming area, may not have cell service if you have AT&T) Point A Campground - Andalusia/Gantt area I have not been there since ownership changed, but have heard good things about it. Cypress Landing RV Park - Dozier (just north of Gantt) Never been there, but have heard good things about it. Lake Jackson RV Park - Florala (at the edge of town) Open Pond National Forest Campground - Covington County (20 - 30 minutes to nearest town, fishing but no swimming, lots of woods, probably won't have cell service if you have AT&T) The details on that site for the types of camping spots available is not correct. They have primitive camping sites and full water and electric hookups if I remember correctly. Isaac Creek Campground - on Claiborne Lake (Alabama River) in Monroe County We have taken the boat there to launch. The campground is nice. BamBam stayed there when his pipeline crew was working in that area. It is pretty remote, though, so you would need to take groceries with you and plan to cook. Fishing would be best out of a boat from there, too, I think.

I would add to 'Huntress's post about Open Pond that in addition to fishing in Open, Buck, and Ditch Ponds, and Blue Lake, just a hop down the road, that there are several miles of hiking trails around the campground, and down into the Blackwater State Forest of Florida, as well. The last time we hiked on any of them they were reasonably well maintained and clearly marked.

I'm pretty sure Lake Lurleen State Park in Tuscaloosa has RV hookups and right on the lake.

Bear Creek reservoir in Franklin county, Hodges Alabama. Very nice campground on the waters edge and the lake water looks really clean. From what I understand Mike it has great kayaking areas in the lake and creek.

We hunted and camped at Payne Lake at Oakmulgee and the Corps campground on the river in Camden. I liked both.

non-state park: open pond recreation area, conecuh national forest. primitive sites, and excellent RV sites on a small lake. blue lake recreation area is 1.5 miles away, with the clearest water you've ever seen ...
