Is there any kind you don't have to use a feeder or avoid moisture that can be broadcast on the ground. I don't have a lot of funds to spend but have never ran my cameras in the summer this will be my first time. Wanted to know what to use other than corn because it really doesn't benefit the deer as protein pellets or master rack would. Any suggestions would be great

I bought a little lumber, 5/4 x 6, and built a couple of dry troughs. The trough is about 2 feet wide and 6 feet long with the 6" sides. In the middle of it I stood up a 55 gallon plastic olive barrel with part of the bottom cut out, and put a couple of foot long pieces of 4 x 4 along the sides so that the feed would fall down in the trough as the feed is eat. It will hold about 500 pounds of mixed deer feed, sweet feed and corn. It has a 8' x 3' metal top on it. If you are interested I could text a few pictures to you.

If the objective is to get deer in front of a camera, a feeder is not a necessity. Just pour corn on the ground in front of the camera. A feeder will make the corn last a little longer but if you refresh the pile once a week, they'll show up.

I was actually going to try the protein pellets but have heard if they get wet it's a waste of money like maybe the Big Tine 30-06 from TSC. Something that may benefit my deer herd as well as get them in front of the camera

I don't know of anything other than shelled corn that will be OK just lying on the ground. You could build a big PVC feeder that holds a couple of hundred pounds of corn. If you have hogs or bears any feeder other than a spincast hanging from a limb will be tore up. Every time you enter that area you are going to pressure that area, the older deer in particular are going to be nocturnal quickly.

All food sources do not have the same attraction value. While I understand you want to provide more protein, that may not attract them as readily as corn, especially if the deer are not accustomed to the protein pellets. We used to feed a mixture of soybeans and corn. The deer would literally pick all the corn out and leave the soybeans to rot.

Use corn for getting pictures, then use a higher protein food source if you choose to continue feeding them. I think that may be your best bet.
