When we did our hunt, the owner used peanut paste from a factory. But he said fish was the best bait. Just what he said, sounded odd to me, but I guess it would stink like they like it.

Dehydrated fish has been reported as the best bait.
Regular corn works great. That is all I use.
I doubt your bait is the problem.
How long did the hogs stay in the trap before you got them out when you caught last time?
Did you catch the entire sounder?
Did you use a shovel and get all the pig crap up?
Does your gate have a threshold that the pigs have to step over?
All of these things play a big part in catching pigs quickly. Any trap will catch a pig or pigs. But, that is not your goal if you are really trying to put a real hurt on the population.
You need a trap that catches the entire sounder each time.

I listened to a guy from Texas A&M. He works with the state on their hog problem. He said that raspberry and strawberry soda soaked corn was the best they knew of to hold hogs in an area. I soaked 5 gal of corn in strawberry soda for a week, went out and dug a hole to put it in (as instructed)walked less then 50yds away and a hog was in the hole after the corn. just wanted to see if it really worked..it did..not that I need that to see hogs especially from September-january
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself The older I get the better I used to be

Elkhunter, the hogs were caught at night and removed early the next morning. The trap doesn't have a threshold and as far as catching the entire sounder I couldn't be sure. We have very limited cell service on our property so we're limited as to what we can do with the traps or cameras. I'm going to try a Spartan Gocam this weekend and see if it will work but I doubt that it will. Thanks for the replies The only way you can tell in your situation is to keep a game camera on the trap and try and learn how many are in each sounder. Simply counting pigs, by size and cooler will give you a good idea of how many are in the sounder and then simply compare the pigs once you kill them to the live pictures. Did you clean up the droppings after the catch?

Did you clean up the droppings after the catch? Have you seen a difference when you clean the trap out after a catch as opposed to just resetting it?

I caught 19 times in a single trap in a single location last year. Yes, I see a big difference.
