Rickie Fowler put on a clinic this morning. Lowest opening round of a US Open ever. It looks like this is going to be one of the easier US Open set ups ever. There are like 45 guys under par. I usually love to watch them struggle in this tournament so that's kind of disappointing

Saw a couple of comments today about the USGA "easing them into it" before the weekend. They're supposed to get more rain tomorrow, too.

I hated that they cut the fescue. If you can't hit a 60-yard fairway then you should be slashing in the hay. Fowler was danged impressive today and a boatload more at -4 or so.

Yea im sure Mike Davis probably is less than impressed by them torching the course today. Protecting par has been a high priority to him in the past so I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to trick it out and drop scores. The problem is, with a soft course, all he can do is add length to make it play ridiculously long, and that will weed out half of the field

I figure they'll move the tees around this weekend, especially if it rains today or tonight.

Honestly, I hate the way they fart around with the length, move the tee boxes around and make changes during the event. IMO they should have things set, other than the hole placement on the greens, and leave it.

Also wish they'd have a rotation like The Open with five or six courses and be done, instead of moving around. Pebble, Merion, Winged Foot, some of the classics. Let the PGA C'ship move around.

If ya'll wanted to see them hacking in the grass you should have hung around and watched Jason Day and Rory hacking it out of that grass. Day had two triple's.

That's fine with me. I just hate that the USGA capitulated this week and cut the fescue after all the bitching.

The players know what's coming. Nut up and go play. Quit bitching about it and then have the USGApussies do something drastic during tourney week.

That said, I think the USGA should have had at least a first-cut rough five yards wide or something. Those hard stalks still would have been tough to escape from. If you get out of that into the tall stuff then you're in the schitt for real.

JBC, that's 12 courses with great tradition and challenges for any pro or amateur good enough to qualify. I wonder what the criteria is for selecting the courses. Chambers Bay was "the" hot course and then hosted an Open but was panned for its baked cauliflower greens (which were shitty). Now we're at a second "course of the decade!" course in Wisconsin and hearing about the length, grass, etc.

Just seems weird. Maybe the private courses have had enough. If I was a player I'd rather say that I won at Merion or Winged Foot or Olympic than at Chambers Bay, although winning anywhere I guess would be nice.

Clem I don't disagree at all. I was watching the history of this 12 year old course and the first thing I wondered was how the hell did they get the Open. Yesterday I think it was Speith chuncked one that only hopped like a foot. If his caddy hadn't seen exactly where it went back in the grass he'd have never found the ball. This is the tournament that is supposed to make them play like that.

I think they built it specifically for getting the Open. Host it once and you're in forever as a course that hosted the U.S. Open - branding, eventually raising rates, marketing to the "come play the Open course!" crowd. Same as Chambers Bay.

Milwaukee's had a great history with professional golf, of course. The Greater Milwaukee Open was a regular stop, and there are a lot of private clubs along with some pretty big money folks. Wisconsin has some gorgeous courses throughout the state, thanks to the sandy rolling land in some areas.

The Open will be returning to the traditional courses in the next few years. So we've had decades of tradition, then the Chambers-Erin Opens and IMO "experiments" for the USGA to see the feedback, and now back to the traditional courses. I'd bet if the financial return to Chambers and Erin Hills is higher than expected for hosting, the USGA would look at other public venues like them. Maybe not. Who knows with the USGA?

I haven't kept up, to be honest, as much as I usually do.

Did y'all see where a spectator died today at the Open? They've had Mickelson withdraw, a blimp crash, the tall grass controversy and now a spectator has died. The USGA must be wondering if a tornado is going to arrive next.

If we could cease and desist from calling it "The Open" it would sure make me happy

For forever, the other Open was called the British Open. Ours, the U.S. Open
I agree, The Open, is across the waters.

They're more clumped up than the fescue after it was cut Wednesday. I wouldn't count out anyone at 3-under although a five-shot lead with someone playing confidently certainly would be tough to overcome.

Justin Thomas looks to be on fire. Hell of a player.

Certainly could be an interesting Sunday. Or Monday.

Quite, yes. Didn't know he had two bogeys until he was walking to the scoring trailer. That's incredible. The shot on 18 was awesome.

59 in January in Hawaii and now a record 63, from a guy about as big as a loaf of bread.

Yep.

Hitting a 290 3 wood into the wind with a cut at 150lbs isn't suppose to happen

She is so bad

She has to step into her dress.

There is no way the waist material could get around the titties other wise

She has to step into her dress.

I was wondering if I was the only one making this observation!

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

My wife saw her tonight in that white dress and asked "are those 80 Double Ds?"

I said TV adds 10 pounds so they're only 70 Double-Ds. laugh

Y'all know Holly is only 30? She looks like she's about 45 is nothing but silicon and and injected fat. I wouldn't throw her out of bed, but there's much better golf chicks out there. For example,

Matsuyama in the clubhouse at -12. Koepka and Harman still with several holes to play at -13 and -12 , respectively. I would take -12 in the clubhouse right now. As I was typing, Harman drops one to go to -11. Japan might get their first major winner.

Koepka looks immune to the pressure. He has his foot on their throats now.

I wonder if the girlfriend thing had Koepka stoic or he's just that way. I mean the guy didn't seem to be all that excited about winning the tournament.

I think he is a lot like Speith and you really won't see many "highs or lows" from him. I did see one shot of him as they were driving away in the cart and he appeared to be very emotional.
