I've been tinkering with them this year. I tried the 1 3/4" 100 grain heads last year and was very impressed with the overall performance of the head (great entrance/exit, clean pass throughs, SHARP blades and easy to resharpen), but very disappointed in the strength of the head. Out of 6 deer I have shot this year with the 1 1/4" cut 100 grain heads I can say it isn't any better. The blades seem to be rock-solid, but the head bends very bad. I have already lost 3 of the 6 heads due to severe bending/breaking. I haven't experienced this with any other head I have ever shot. I'll probably pull out the Montecs again. I killed 9 with Montecs in 2009 and not a single bend, chip, or scratch on any of them.

It gets expensive buying new heads after every hunt. I may write Jakhammer and tell them I would love to remain a faithful customer, but they are going to have to strengthen the heads before I'll buy any more.

Has anyone else noticed the metal is very weak in their jakhammers?

Matt, 25 years ago I hunted with Wasp fixed blade heads. No difference then and what you are seeing now. The ferrule bent on the ones that I shot a deer with.

I would love to have the problem of wearing out broadheads on deer!

If I did a broadhead per deer i'd have to put a limit on it at this rate.

I had the same problem with Jakhammers 15 years ago. Not only do they not hold up but if you don't get a pass thru the arrow will just fall out. Also I shot a beaver at 8yrds and the arrow did not pass thru, threw them all away and went back to fixed blades.

I have never had issues with the Jak Hammers and I've been shooting them for years. I always replace my blades after a shot so bent blades are not an issue.

AND I even had a complete pass thru on a beaver!

Moose, the blades are stronger than a steel axe. That isn't the problem. They are actually very easy to resharpen and I have had very few of them bend. It is the ferrule and the head itself that seems to be weak. After Saturday afternoon, I now have 2 out of 6 that I started with on October 15th. IMO, that is unacceptable. I've gotten pass throughs on a couple of deer, had the arrow stick in the ground and the head be bent to heck and back.

Matt, I hear ya. I don't doubt you. Do you have new ones in that new packaging? If so, I wonder if their quality is down now.

No. The ones I have were in the old yellow packaging, not the newer dark plastic box.

My buddy shoots them and he's shot three deer with the same head this year. That is the thing I love about Muzzy's, the blades may get boogered up but the head is damn near indestructible.
