Didn't have enough time to fine tune, but I was more that surprised at this 100 yard group. 16.5 inch barrel marlin compact, leupold m8 4x. Cor-lokt 150gr

I hand load everything I shoot but especially like hand loading 30-30 simply because there are lots of .30 cal bullets out there. I shoot everything from lead 150g bullets using pistol powder, 110g bullets with a fast powder, 160g soft points for deer hunting, and 220g thumpers for camping. Shoot them in a Win 94 and Marlin 336.

Wow, that's impressive for a short barreled 30-30 and a 4X scope. thumbup

Nice group Burbank! I bet Roadkill even uses swaged lead .314 round lead balls for small game.

Post safety. I have removed it, but it had one.

The trigger is horrible. Anyone ever put in one of those trigger kits?

If it is a two piece trigger Wild West Guns kit I have used and is a good place to start.

I've never seen a dirty thirty shoot that good at 100 and I've had quite a few of em. You better hide that one.

they generally have to be tuned to shoot that well: front barrel band relieved, forestock relieved, and such. i had a 94 that would shoot like that, but not until i tuned it; it also came with an unusually good trigger. had a marlin 336, too, that shot that well with 170-grain power points; again, it happened to have a good trigger, and i relieved the front band ...

Most of the ones I had stayed around the 2" mark which is ok for deer, all of them were stock with no mods.

That was exactly what i expected and it may have been pure luck that it shot that well. I go back in a few weeks and try it again.

I've got one of those M8 Leupold 4x scopes. Wish I had a truck load of them.

Probably more deer killed with a 30-30 than any other rifle

This^^.

It was considered the big gun. We hunted cows with them. Had to get up close and shoot them in the head or be sure to break supporting bone. If they got into the bush, getting them out in 80 degree heat was near impossible.

Maybe a Winchester but I've got several Marlins that will print a 3 shot 1" or VERY close group at 100 yds consistently. That's with handloads of course.

Ive got model 94 thats, mines old and has been shot ALOT! Its a turd tho. but marlins ive shot always shot well out to 100-150. If you wanted somethin really cool you could shop around and find you a model 788 rem with factory 30-30 chambering. They hard to find an a li bit pricey but that is one accurate little bolt gun that will shoot the lights out at 200yrds all day long.
