If it was a pre-existing food plot I wouldn't even fertilize with that mix. You should have enough P&K to get it done just put some bean inoculate on them at planting to help fix nitrogen and you should be ok.

Sorry you ment fall plots. Yeah CNC I second that any cereal grain and crimson clover and yuchi. Sunn hemp during the summer would really help build that sand up and put nitrogen back for your fall plot and give the deer something to beat on in the hot months.

Part of it will depend on acreage. If these are 1 acre plots or less....then sunn hemp will still likely get wiped out. My field I show in the T&M thread is 2 acres and I still can't grow stuff like that in the summer. They just get wiped out.

Durana needs moisture and proper pH to really do well. A little shade also helps.

I don’t have any experience with chicory. The best thing for sandy soil is large amounts of biomass to help increase organic matter. Sand has very, very little water/nutrient holding capacity without it.

I use cheap little cane poles I buy on line in bulk and DR Shrinks 1/2in women tape it's like 65 bucks for 1300 yards to make my homemade plot saver. I spray it with equate irish springs body wash and ammonia and anything else I get my hands on that deer hate for cheap. The key is don't let them tastes what's behind the fence if they do nothing will keep them out. The fence needs to be up soon after you plant and sprayed after every rain to get a stand. Yes one or 2 will get in but they want destroy it if you spray often. I have a 25 gallon sprayer on my ranger and I just ride around the field and spray as needed. Tape needs to be white and about waist high and tight so that it waves with any wind. Evey place and every field is different but I've had good success getting plots growing behind this even beans.

Delar small burnette is another planting that you could mix with chicory, if your wanting a perrenial plot. I've found no planting as persistent as small burnette. Deer like it and it is extremely drought tolerant. For any clover to do well, you have to have soil that will hold moisture during the dry days of summer and early fall. As crimson said, shade is your friend with perrenial clovers. I would try and build my soil, before trying any perrenial plantings.
