It is probably a just verdict in that she probably really didn't want to kill the man and she probably did fear for her life, but regardless of that, she made a very bad, deadly judgment call for which there should be some repercussions. Hopefully, she was encouraged to find another career choice at least. Sad but true.

Follow the orders given period.
I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

Hopefully, she was encouraged to find another career choice at least. The problem today is nobody respects the law or law enforcement like they did 20-30 years ago. It is now the fashionable now to push the officers and the situation to the limit. Slap on the wrist and your back out on the street tomorrow. Saw a report last week locally about a guy that was arrested on home invasion. He had been arrested on various charges 14 times previously. it's basic dog psychology. If the dog does something bad and nothing significant happens to him, he will do it again. I understand the laws and the responsibilities of those that enforce them. I'll side with the cop shooting the thug (white or black, female or male) every time based on the video. Kinda like telling our military in Afghanistan, sure the guy has an AK and sure he's pointing it in your general direction and his armed buddies are amassing behind him and chanting death to America but dont shoot until they shoot at you first. I'm all for punishing bad cops for doing wrong cause there dang sure are some bad ones that deserve it. Personally I know I dont have the right temperament to be a cop and deal with what they have to deal with now days. I'll agree with this, but in no way was I trying to say the officer was a bad person and needed to be jailed. She was put in a very high stress situation and had to make a split second judgment call and she made the wrong one. That may simply be an indicator that she doesn't need to be a street officer. I haven't followed up on the case, but I bet if you check, she would probably agree with me. Like others have said, the guy could have easily prevented his own death. I'm floored and had to read your post twice. I think for the first time ever, we agree on something involving a controversial officer/citizen interaction. I think that means we are both obviously wrong.

I think that means we are both obviously wrong. Someone check the earth's axis, some things out of whack. Seriously, I will always be the first to tell you that some people aren't cut out to deal with the situation that we encounter. I'm just thankful that every time I had someone not listen to me and reach back into their pocket for their lighter, etc. That little voice never told me "shoot, shoot, now", or a person would be dead that didn't need to be, at least for not listening, and my career didn't end that day.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
