Years ago at a trade show I was asked if I wanted to experience what a jolt from a Taser was like so I could write about it. Was told that it would be on the lowest setting possible for some fraction of a second.

I declined. If I ever get to the point I need to be hit by a Taser then I'll deserve it, but I don't care to take a shot on my own accord.

Anyone taken a Taser shot and if so, what was it like?

I've hit myself with one of the cheap ones like you can buy at most any sporting goods store. They aren't nearly as strong as the ones used in Law Enforcement though.

It didn't "hurt", necessarily, but it certainly wasn't pleasant. Kinda tough to describe. Now when I did it to myself, it was on the top of my thigh. Almost felt like someone had hit me with a bat or something. I'm sure the police ones have a whole lot more "hurt" in them though.

Yes, with an x26, to be certified to carry one. Longest 5 seconds of my life. Got hit with that and OC spray on the same day. I'd rather be hit with that taser a dozen times over than get that horrible spray chit in my eyes again.

I didn't think about the OC spray but yeah, I think I'd rather take the Taser shot than the OC in my eyes, nose, mouth and lungs. Neither would be good.

X26 here at a NATO non-lethal weapons conference it sucked but no where as bad as the Active Denial System (ADS) that thing is a whole new level of pain. Volunteered for both out of curiosity and from working on similar devices. It would be expensive to get me to try ADS again.

I've seen the ADS on tv before...always wondered what it was all about. How would you describe it?

When I used to go to the sheriffs office every day, veteran deputy who always had gadgets put one of those handheld things to the back of my leg as I was standing at a counter. It drew that leg up involuntarily and it was on low just a fraction of a second.
I've watched OC certification and it hurt me just to watch those guys and gals take that to mouth and nose.

Nah but did accidentlly shoot myself in the end of my thumb with an eppi pen. Damn that hurt..........

OC certified here. Been there, done that, hopefully, never again. A few months before I retired my department got Tasers and the surplus M-16s. Since they both required training that I wasn't interested in, I declined both, as I knew I would be retiring soon and lasted 28 years without them, I figured I could last a couple more months. Friends told me that the Taser certification was like a giant seizure that spasms every muscle in your body for 5 seconds.

Plenty of OC stories. One of my favorites was many years ago, on a very hot summer afternoon, one of our locals decided the thing to beat the heat was to strip down jaybird naked and try to fight with his neighbors. When the officers arrived he decided to fight with them. They emptied about two canisters of OC on him before he became compliant. They then took him to jail and called me since I was the Shift Commander. Now sweat opens pores and crazy people that fight the police in the middle of summer sweat a lot. The sweat not only opened pores but it ran the OC south to his nether region. When I got to the jail, the guy was screaming like a banshee "My !^&*'s on fire, help" I began to believe that he was too crazy or high to comprehend that his manhood was not going to burn off, but rest assured, he wasn't going to be convinced of that anytime soon. Now our policy says that once they become compliant, the officer is supposed to help decontaminate them, but the officers in this case just flatly said they weren't washing him off. I understood this and let them just take him to the bathroom and give him all the time in the sink he needed as water and time are pretty much the only ways to alleviate the pain.

No OC, but I've been dusted by pepper spray right in the eyes when my wife wanted to practice spraying it and before I could scream "NOOOOOO, the wind is wrong!!" I got blasted by the wind drift. I was about 5 feet downwind. That wasn't fun.

No tasers, but I did get tangled up into a very strong electric fence one time for a bit before it finally shorted out. I fell off of a horse and into a four stand fence. Not pleasant.

No but I've Been pepper sprayed..I did watch my cousin get tased twice and pepper sprayed, I laughed so damn hard I nearly dropped my bottle of MD 20/20

I have ran a few EMT calls that developed in the need to have police called. I remember 3 of these where people got Tazed. I don't want nothing to do with it. One of them was funny as heck. Police told the guy just to go on back in his house. He kept running his mouth and getting louder. Finally cop had enough and shot him with Tazer. Dude fell down and hit his head on a concrete flower pot. Jumped up screaming "Is that all you got MF?" He hit him again. It put him on the ground twitching. He jumped up again a little slower. Cop hit him again telling him to stay down. He did. Last I saw he was cuffed and stuffed.

BTW Stray, just so you know, OC is pepper spray. It stands for oleo resin capsicum. That means it is basically concentrated pepper juice in an oily medium that will stick to you better than just the juice. So you have officially been pepper sprayed.

My son and his friends played around with my wifes taser. Walked into a room with a huge pile off boys trying wrestle it away from each other. All had welts all over and I couldnt help be laugh. If you're gonna be dumb you better be tough.

Why do leo have to get shot with a taser or oc to carry it? They carry guns and don't have to get shot with them.

They say that when you have to go to court over using it and the plaintiff attorney asks if you have any idea of the catastrophic pain you caused his client, you can truthfully say "Yes, I know exactly what it feels like" and then show them the video of you getting it. Personally, I think it is because they are closet sadist.

Gotcha. Figured LEOs used something different or more concentrated.

She got me good. Both eyes, mouth and I breathed it in. I was hurting for a while.

I've always wondered how pepper spray and mace compared to military grade CS. Anyone experienced both?

OC Spray is worse than taser because its effects linger on. I would never go through OC exposure again. One of worse experiences of my life. Everyone is different. Some folks can take it like nothing. One of my colleagues just laughed it off when we were exposed in training but most of us were miserable.
