Well I know I said I was buying a Yamaha SHO, but I fooled around and bought a used 2016 boat with a Mercury Pro XS.
Which oil do y'all use (the specific Optimax oil?), and which ethanol fuel treatment do y'all use (Stabil?)? I was considering the Lucas products.
We were on the edge of Eternia, when the power of Greyskull began to take hold.

ONLY use Mercury optimax oil or Mercury premium plus oil. And fuel treatment id use yamaha ring-free
According to what the motor has ran since break in. Optimax oil is higher, it's a full synthetic. Around $30 a gallon. Premium plus is a semi synthetic and is around 23-25$ a gallon
And btw, Mercury Pro XS engines can either according to Mercury. Doesn't solely have to be optimax oil.

I use premium plus and bioborEB works fine but I always run ethanol free in my boat. Got a shell station by the house that's 24hrs. It's 2.79/gal right now but it's worth not having a problem. Go ahead and buy you a few fuel filters and the metal adapter. I change them out once a year

If at all possible, DO NOT use ethanol gasoline in that engine...or any 2 stroke, for that matter.
I use ACES IV for 2 strokes in every tank of gas I run through my outboards. Initial price seems high, but the small amount of additive it actually takes per tank (1 oz per 6 gallons) makes it pretty reasonable. Best product I've seen for cutting down on carbon build-up on piston tops.
Yamalube Ring-Free is good too. I used it with pretty good results before I discovered ACES IV.
As previously stated...that engine should be under warranty, therefore you should use only what's recommended by mother Merc...which is probably their Optimax oil.
I do not suggest SeaFoam in 2 stroke engines, because it contains a fair amount of alcohol as one of its ingredients...the main thing you're trying to avoid/combat.

Pay extra and buy non ethanol even if you have to drive a little farther it will save you money on repairs later.I had to have carbs rebuilt twice in 3 years because of it. Stopped using it after the last rebuild and have never even needed the carb cleaned or adjusted in the last 5 years. Only thing I'll ever put ethanol in is my truck.. This^^ And go out in your boat at least once a week.
