A buddy let me put out a little green light that operated off 12 volt battery this weekend and I was pleasantly surprised at the activity from this light. He said he bought from Amazon for only $48, so I ordered myself one today and another one that had a higher lumen and longer cord.

Ahh well hell yeah. That's one of those things you say if I had a house on the water I would definitely do this..... and never do it. Congrats on getting it in and make sure you lock up everything on your dock cause I assume you'll be attracting some other new night time visitors

Just curious what lumen and length cord did you order?

I like the green underwater lights, but scared to have one hardwired to A/C with kids swimming around it. 12V may be the answer.

Same here. I don't want anything electric going down into the water at my dock.

How long did it take before fish started showing up?

I made two of these with led strips wrapped around PVC and covered with clear pipe. I put them off my uncles dock at smith and within two hours you could see stripe running through the middle of it. It was neat!! I've taken some before and fished stick ups at lay at night a caught a mess of crappie.

How deep are you running your light?

The one I used had only a 15 foot cord but it is only 14 feet off the end of my dock so it worked fine. I ordered one just like the one I used in the pic and another one that has a 50 foot cord that cost about $25 more than the other one. I had fish showing up within an hour after dark and they remained there throughout the evening.

My wife is horrified about having a big green monster light off the dock in fear of getting shocked while swimming so this is definitely the route I needed to take. It will operate on a fully charge battery for 10-12 hours too.

That's the way to do it Muzzie. I don't like the AC's either. I've seen them with insulation worn off when they were left in the water after drawdown. Some that are pulled in are just thrown under the house or left on the dock. I'm sure they are never examined when they are put back in the next year.

I hang one off my boat to night fish. I got mine off ebay. It has the led wrapped around a dowel. Works great for tight lining minnows.

Someone recently came out with a current detector that has an alarm and auto shut off when it detects open current.

It's only 12volt so you don't have to be concerned about getting shocked.

Muzziehead,
You inspired me to try the DIY version. Gonna give it a try this weekend.

Cheap.
$10 for the LED lights.
$10 for pvc pieces, T12 light cover, glue, and sealant.
I had 25' of 16-2 electrical cord at the house, and I'm gonna rob my lawnmower battery for the initial test.

It may need some weight added. Haven't tested the buoyancy yet.
