Used to be a place north of Centerville called Bulldog Bend, but it has been many years since I've been there. They offered canoe and tubing trips.
There is a park around the fish hatchery by Marion that people use as a put in/take out spot.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I'm putting this here for exposure.
I'm wanting to do a float fishing trip on the Cahaba but don't really know much about putting in and taking out places. Anybody rent canoes and bring you back once you take out? I'm in Helena and was wanting to start somewhere around here. Maybe take out down in West Blocoton? I figured that would be a full day. used to be able to put in at alabama small boats, but someone left a jeep there for like a week so owner doesnt like people parking there now. You could put in at buck creek. They are making a new park at the slab you will be able to take out. It would be a long trip to put in near helena and take out near blocton.

if the water is up a good bit stay the hell away from Grants Mill area in a canoe/boat. It can be very dangerous.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Forever wild is putting in a park off River Road this year (I believe). I measured and it's about 17 miles worth of float from the CR 13 bridge to takeout there. I plan on doing that trip once the park is up and functional.
Ya'll are just overthinking it now

There's a launch in Hamburg, Perry county though. It's under a bridge on hwy 6 I believe I know people that do this and get out at Hwy 80. It is an overnight trip and not a day trip they tell me. I'll have to believe them since I've never done it. I have thought about it though. I guess that is kinda like staying in a Holiday Inn.

I figured that would be a full day. you have Alabama small boats in Helena out past old cahaba, they used to rent canoes and drop you at old town and you float buck creek to the cahaba then back to your car at Alabama small boats where you started. Can take all day or 3-4 hrs paddling. Bulldog bend is a fun 4-5 hr float on the little cahaba.

I've done several camp out trips on the Elk River in Tennessee. Start at the dam and go to Fayetteville. I don't fish much but a buddy caught a lot of trout. I took a large canoe with all the camping stuff and he was in a kayak. Always had great time.

The county has put in a landing at the end of County Road 30 between Suttle and Sprott. There is a landing above it on HWY 14 just out of Marion, and a landing at HWY 6 in Suttle below it. That gives you 2 floats that you can easily make in a day while fishing. I made both floats countless times growing up.
The only dangerous water is just below the road 30 landing, though it is not bad if you have any clue about such things. Used to be great bass fishing on those floats, but I've heard its pretty sorry now. Probably still good for catfish. Good luck!

In my experience when floating creeks and fishing, however many minutes it takes to drive a vehicle from your launch to your takeout spot is about how many hours your float will be when the creek is at a normal level. If the water is high it will be much less time and if the water is low don't even go. It seems like Helena to west Blocton could be a 2 or 3 day trip. You could be right. I have no idea how long it would take but I figured Aldeer would! my son and I have wade fished several spots in the Cahaba and caught a good number of fish. Figured it would be fun to float fish it.

Go to google earth and measure the distance of the path you want to float, then do the math at 1mph and 2mph.If you stop a lot or are catching a lot of fish, you'll take up a lot of time. Works pretty well for me on all the creeks down here in Baldwin county. Print you out some aerial photos of easily recognizable spots along the way that you can reference so you'll know where you are at in case you don't have a signal, or you are like me and run into a wasp nest, turn over your boat, lose your fishing pole, tackle box, sunglasses, and then you still get stung 12 times.
