Anyone using Barnes bullets in 223 for deer? I'm interested in developing a load for hunting and I'd like to hear any results you guys have had

Bigbamaboy uses 55 grain tsx in his 223. Send him a pm, if he doesn't chime in.

I shot a few does with the 55gr Tac-X and the results were devastating to say the least. Complete pass throughs on all deer with wound channel about the size of a quarter. They surprised me very much and I would not hesitate to shoot any deer inside 200 yards with them. I believe my load consisted of 27gr of H4895, 55 TAC-X, with velocity of 3215fps.

H335 BL-C 2 AA2460 where i'd start.Watch your COAL. Thanks! I've read that I need to push COAL back AT LEAST 0.05 off the lands I shot a few does with the 55gr Tac-X and the results were devastating to say the least. Complete pass throughs on all deer with wound channel about the size of a quarter. They surprised me very much and I would not hesitate to shoot any deer inside 200 yards with them. I believe my load consisted of 27gr of H4895, 55 TAC-X, with velocity of 3215fps. Not sure the difference between their TAC-X and TSX but I can educate myself ... I'm wanting to push mine at 3200+ so this is good info I think this is a good start, thanks guys

Tac x is basically a tsx, I believe it's also a flat base and the tsx is boat tail. Either one will get it done.
If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Rocket - I got a pound of H335 I will give you if you want it. It's a several years old but it has never been opened and has been kept in the house.

Thanks wmd! I now have a pound of H335 to tinker with. Thinking I will buy some H4395 and CFE223 to play with. Several guys on THR have had good success with the CFE223.
This is a long term project ... For the past four seasons I have bought a new rifle, worked up a load for it, and hunted with it all season. This year I'm using a Steyr 243, next year I may try this DPMS AR15 if I find a load that I like. Of course I'll post up my results ...
Thanks guys

FYI I have higher velocity with the h4895 than the cfe223, groups about the same.
If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Just saw this. Let me know when you shoot your first groups, Paul. I'm interested in what you end up with. I'm going to start loading mine also.

Revisiting this ... considering a 62g TTSX load. I've got CFE223, H335, and Varget

I've not yet killed any deer with the 223 TTSX but I have talked to lots of guys who have. Some seem to prefer the lighter bullet in the 223. I do know that with larger calibers the light for caliber Barnes are more effective than the heavier ones. Maybe "effective" isn't as good a word as devastating. I should say that the light for caliber Barnes seem to do more damage, especially when hitting bone.
