effects Auburn. They can't recruit guys from Opelika due to hiring their ex-Head Coach Blackmon. I know there are waivers and such but it appears this rule was signed into place AFTER Blackmon was hired...thoughts?

I thought that coach couldn't recruit that school. Does it mean no coach on the staff can recruit a school?

Doekiller knows this doesn't have a chance to hold up. That is if an individual files suit, and not a school.
Right, Scott?

Not Doekiller, but that is certainly Ex Post Facto, which would be illegal if it were a law, but NCAA regs are not laws so it would have to be adjudicated on other grounds such as targeting a certain recruit or team.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Not only can they not recruit that school, but a player from that high school can't sign with the school the coach went to work for is the way I was told.

dang, that rule is harsh. It hurts high school coaches ability to move up to the college game tremendously.

One more nail in the coffin of the NCAA.

That is why Gus was so adamantly opposed to it. His last year at a HS coach he had Mitch Mustain, who every team in the country wanted. Gus says if they had a rule like this back then he never would've had a college opportunity.

This is going to make jobs at great high school programs a dead end job now.

Didn't South Carolina hire the Qb's dad/coach?

I understand the reasoning behind it but seems definitely too harsh. High school that my son came out of probably has 35-40 kids scattered across about 25 different D1 and D2 schools that are currently playing college ball. Does that mean that the head coach is prohibited by NCAA regs from working at any of those 25 schools where his previous players are currently playing? Something sounds incorrect to me about the interpretation.

Yes, Coach Bentley was hired from Opelika High, and is one of the reasons this rule was instituted.

Well hell. I wonder how they feel about these coaches working summer camps at these Universities?

Didn't they pass a rule about that too?

They addressed summer camps in some fashion recently but I never paid attention to the particulars.

What if the player genuinely wants to attend school X. He can't simply because of a coach that was hired. And how many years after the hire does this effect the recruiting of players from the HS?

Not a problem if it is an assistant coach. "Advisor" or "analyst" is the problem.

That's right. Bentley was a hot shot high school coach in SC until AU hired him in one of the off field roles. He stayed there a year and then Muschamp gave him an on the field coaching job. Everyone assumed Jake would be at AU until Boom stole him and dad away.
