The strike eagle is a good scope and a good value. I just can't get comfortable with the reticle. Only reason I haven't bought one.

My local guy sold me a VXR Hog 1.25x4 for $450 new. It's the best deal I found. The 1x6 Vortex Strike Eagle didn't have near the glass the Leupold does and the reticle is much too busy for me. I especially like the way the FireDot system operates.

IMO you are trying to do too much with one gun. Home defense is best left to either iron sights or a red dot, where your long range yote hunting will require something with magnification. I'd hate to see you trying to find your target in a house when the scope was last left on 10x power.
Either that, or scope it for long range, and then add either iron sights or a red dot on a 45 degree canted mount as backup for SHTF moments close range. I agree with this, but with good mounts you could swap between a red dot and a scope without having to re-zero.

It has iron sights and also has a laser sight and you never catch me without the glock on me.

I use Bushnell 1x4x24 for shooing and plinking. My 300BLK has a 4x14x44 scope for hunting. I have a few more but they are put up.
Around the house is a short shotty and a few other surprises if needed. But I hope not

I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

Just an FYI but Leupold makes an illuminated Mark AR mod 1 with the same illumination system used on the VXR for less money. I looked at those, but couldn't get past the target turrets. I much prefer the clean, simple look of the VXR. I'm a set it and forget it kinda guy. 400 yards is as far as I ever plan to shoot this rifle, and only plinking then.

This. I its worth taking a look at this style scope, fixed magnification prism scope; it appears to fit your requirements. Burris, Vortex, and Primary Arms all make a version. I've been meaning to buy one and try it myself. Only thing that has held me back is the reticles tend to be too busy for my tastes. I've had the AK bug lately and may pick up the Primary Arms 7.62 version soon.
