It seems like it would be so easy to have a rule "One membership, one gun"

That way you can bring a son or a guest anytime you want, but there's only one guy hunting.

Thoughts?

I know the guy with 6 kids and a wife that hunts would be pissed, but I'm not sure how a single bachelor should have to subsidize that other guy's kids' hunting.

There is a place for such a club. As the only one who hunts in my family, I would like it. When they advertise family friendly, it sounds nice but what exactly does that mean. I've seen as many as 4 family members hunting under one membership. I like the concept. You can take your 12 year old son or daughter and sit with them when they kill their first deer.

Right. "Family friendly" for me is a huge red flag. Sit with your kid if it's so important that he hunt.

Why could you not take your son/daughter/spouse with you,but just take one gun? The way the rule is written for us,any deer taken comes out of the 1 membership quota, which is 3 bucks and 4 does. I don't know of 1 family that consumes more than 7 deer a year in their household. It's worked well for us. If you want to take guests or have your child/spouse sit alone, purchase 2 memberships

Disregard the question. I misread your statement.

That's the beauty of having private clubs, make your own rules. At this point, I would never join a club like that. My kids are young and hunt with me so it wouldn't really effect me but I don't want to hunt around people with that mindset at this point in my life. I would rather see people bringing more people into the hunting lifestyle and others not be jealous or critical of what is killed. I see the other side of it as well but it's not for me right now.

I agree. Using state game law it would not be fair to allow a family of 5 who hunted a club under one membership to all to take 3 bucks each a year for a total of 15 bucks when a single person only could take 3 but paid the same dues in as the family guy.

About the only fair way to do it would be to say just for example your membership gets X amount of deer.
lets just say its 2 buck, 2 doe per season per membership.
If your 2 kids each kill a doe, you are out of does.
If uncle charlie comes as your guest and he kills a buck, it counts as one of your bucks & leaves you with one buck.
You could let whoever ya wanted shoot, it just comes off your memberships total.

My club rules are X amount of each sex deer per membership. Immediate family is exempt from guest fees.

I've never really been a part of a club. Might end up joining one this summer though. I know there's no perfect club.

Hey man, you don't have to apologize or ask permission for any rule. I know... you're just asking thoughts.

Anyway, you can make any rule your want and if you fill up the club spots, then you're fine.

You can make a rule where your members have to be female and at least a C cup. It's your club

Besides, I love limited guests and a member can't expect for his or her entire family to hunt for the same price.

If I were single and no kids, I'd join.

Our club has rule one guest per member per day and anything killed goes against the members allowed kills. Each member has 3 bucks and 5 turkeys, guest kills one of either then that's subtracted off the members numbers. Not a perfect system but works for us. All is on honor system but it's pretty tough with our group to slip one by.

In our club, each membership gets 4 bucks but only ONE buck can be killed by guest. We're not a guest friendly club. They don't work, they don't invest, they don't have a long-term interest in the club. Rather not have'em. But we allow a few.

Our club rules for guests;
No guest the first week of archery and gun season
Guest must hunt same zone as member
Guest kills come off the member quota

It works for us, there have been several adult guest introduced to hunting and killing their first deer on our lease. We try to keep rules very simple.

We are pretty liberal with our guest days. We are a small private club (10 members 1200 acres). Allowing these guest days has worked out well for us. We have lost a couple of members due to illnesses, financial troubles, etc.... Some of our regular guests always seem to fill in those gaps and become members. The more time they spend up there the more they love it. To each his own. Everyone has a different mentality and I see it both ways. I am a hardcore hunter. I would rather not have a guest as it takes away from my hunts. On the other side, I feel obligated to bring a couple of friends/family as they love to hunt but aren't able to do so regularly for whatever reason. On the other side, we have guys that hunt 2-3 hunts total a year and still love coming up every other weekend and maxing out there guest days. For us, it is all about having fun, the camp fires, the fellowship.

Below are our rules:
Each membership is allowed 6 guest days per season. The member may split them between different hunters and different weekends or weekdays. (Example: Member can bring one hunter for three weekends) (Member may also bring guests during the week but the total number of guest days per member is 6 days)
No guests will be permitted to hunt opening weekend and the last two weeks of the hunting season.

Each member is responsible for any guests/family members they bring; any penalties accrued by guests/family are the responsibility of the member. Make sure your guests have read the rules and understand our goals and the consequences.
