Got set up on a bird that i just knew was gonna pitch out in the clearcut. Gobbled better than any bird all year on the limb, a hen pitches out into the clearcut about 100 yards away hes still behind me sort of so i figure im good. NOPE!!!!! About 30 minutes later hes 100 yards out in the clearcut strutting, gobbling, for over 1 hr i watched this and couldnt make a move on him. The clearcut also serves as a cow pasture so its pretty open now. Well im going to the spot he likes to strut in the morning and just gonna wait. Second time this bird has done this to me I thought I had him figured out the other day, and I might have had that hen not flwon half way across the pasture before hitting the ground. But I feel pretty certain with him being there as long as he was this morning its his strut zone so I'll be back.

It isn't necessary to see a good tackle...you can hear it.

OK so this morning I get in the clearcut where he was strutting. Not a peep. Sit there and about 730 I let out some pretty loud cuts. Look to my left and see a white head. He sees my hen decoy and immediately goes into strut about 80 yards away. He only moved a few feet and would not come in. Gobbled several times. I realize he wants her to come to him.
So I got my fan next to.me and my gun in my lap. I click the gun off safety and pick up the fan, he immediately turns bright red and comes running right past the decoy and to me. I drop the fan and pick up the gun and at 20 steps shoot him in the face. Number 3 for the year and he was the best this season real blonde spurs that were curved and sharp. Pics to come.
