Be careful preacher, lots of snakes in the area.

Come on PCP you could've got closer for the pic! I was really close; optical illusion makes it look further. At least I got a phone signal in area I'm hunting this afternoon, though I see no reason for there to be a turkey anywhere on the section of land I'm hunting.

Don't you let a snake ruin a turkey hunt Mr Steve, they know how you are on the turkeys so they probably sent him out to run you away

My guide just told me that if I will sit beside a certain feeder all day tomorrow he is certain I will kill a turkey. I can tell he thinks I'm hardheaded and unreasonable because I don't wanna do that. Oh well, at least I didn't see more snakes.

I have finally killed a TX turkey. I went on a trip here in 2005 and ate tag soup. Hunted hard 2 days last week and never came close. This morning I got up early and set up down the hill from where I was Saturday. It was cold, but relatively still, and turkeys gobbled good. Most were roosted on the next ranch and every one of them flew down into their pasture. I think there were 3 longbeards in the flock and one of them had a deep gobble that sounded like an Eastern; bet he is old. I enjoyed talking to him, and he really loved my trumpet. I was thinking I might pull off the near impossible by getting him to leave his hens in the pasture and come to me, when I suddenly heard a turkey drumming right behind me. Then he gobbled 4 times in a row and was maybe 10' from me; that was worth the trip right there. I finally turned my head and didn't see him, so I got on my knees and spun around. If it had been the Coosa WMA he would have spotted me and flown off, but he hung around long enough to catch a load of #9 tss. Turned out to be a nice gobbler with a 10" beard. Gonna try for the old guy in the morning.
