I want a 20ga over and under. I'll shoot doves and rabbits with it. Maybe quail one day. What's the best used one to look for? Don't wanna spend over $800. It'll be a sure nuff field gun that will get scratched up!

The answer to any question about which shotgun to buy is always which ever one fits you the best. If it doesn't fit you won't hit schitt.

When spending that kind of money on an O/U you might get one that is properly regulated or you might not. You might find a good SKB in that price range or even a Browning Citori but 20's are usually a bit higher.

Lots of guys seem to like the Turkey made guns in that price range but quality is hit or miss and they sure aren't up to Beretta standards even when they hit. Honestly, you can buy a much better quality auto in that price range than an O/U.

I know the B guns (Beretta and Browning) are a lot of money but that is where I consider that quality starts.

If you shop enough you might luck up into a quality gun in that price range.

Not to go all gunsnob, but fit is critical in shotgunnery. You'll be way happier with a gun that fits than one thats off.

Only hits count.

I will agree with that, and with modern high end autoloaders, the fit is easier to customize that with an O/U. Most come with a kit to adjust drop and cast and you can change pad thickness for LOP.

I do prefer an O/U,just not a cheap one that doesn't fit you.

The CZ shotguns I've shot have greatly impressed me.

If you know you are going to beat it up get something cheap because it will be worthless after you destroy it.

If you want something to hunt with but at the same time try to take care such that it will hold value, i.e. you don't treat it like a wrench or some other tool and clean it after use... I'd get a Ruger Red Label or look for an older Charles Daly

The only sample of the newest version of the Red LabelI have seen was a huge POS. A store manager showed it to me just to show me what a POS it was. He said it was going back ASAP. It might have been just a bad example but unless everyone was sleeping,it never should have left the floor.

The older Red Labels were solid guns but I thought them clunky,as in pointing like a 2X4. As with anything, handle your choice if possible first or make sure a good return policy is in place.

In the new world of cheapo guns I wouldn't doubt a new one was a POS. If Remington can't make a Marlin rifle I'm sure Ruger can't get a Red Label off the floor cheap enough make their numbers when they report to stock holders and still make a nice one. They quit them because they were too expensive to make. If you can't slap a plastic stock and non-glare finish on something what's a company to do? Make something nice for a smaller profit margin? Nope. Not in 2017. Not in a long time.

At least for a period of time you can still get a used one that is a good one.

I've never owned a 12 Red Label but I have older 20 and 28 and think they point better than a Citori 20 or 28 which I also have as well as Beretta, H&K and assorted others. I don't have anything super fancy and most of the really nice O/U are out of my price range these days. I quail hunt instead of shooting clays a $3k safe queen shotgun is worthless to me.

A Miroku built Charles Daly can be found in that price range as well and they are as fine as any field grade o/u that ever had Browning on the side of it. Made under the same roof. I have one in .410 that is hail on pen raised birds that don't know how to fly fast.

CZ wouldn't be bad for the money as a working gun. They decent.

I would look at the browning citori lightening. I shot one a while back and I loved it. Points really well.

I've got one I bought years ago at a gun show in Mobile at the Fairgrounds for $375. Like the gun fine, just wish like rip it had ejectors instead of extractors. It's a Browning gun essentially, for a lower end gun price. I'd buy another in a second if I found one in .20, .16 or even .28. Didnt know they made one in .410. Never seen many for sale anywhere.

I'll put in another vote for a Miroku for an inexpensive but quality gun.

I have a few o/u 20s. I would save a few more dollars and buy a browning citroi. They are sweet shooters.

There's a nice looking Browning Citori 12 on the Pensacola Fishing Forum classifieds for $800 today or tomorrow (Monday May 1) only, he says. I want it bad but funds are short.
