I've lost around 48 pounds over the last 6 months on a low carb diet. It has not been a strict "keto" diet just eliminating all sugar, bread, rice etc and being cautious on other carb sources. I've also begun running around 3 times per week. Over the last month I've started back in the weight room which has stalled weight loss, but I'm not concerned since I know it's just muscle canceling out the fat loss.
I will say that I went on vacation with my wife for 4 days and ate "normally", meaning included carbs like pizza, rolls with dinner etc. I gained 6 POUNDS over my weigh in 4 days prior. I know it's mostly water weight, but good grief how discouraging. So, be aware how easily your gains can be destroyed using this method. Right now I'm trying to figure out a sustainable diet going forward that I can stick with and that won't cause me to gain the weight back. I've never gone keto/low carb simply because of the way that your body adjusts when you introduce them back. Implementing healthy habits is what worked for me. Do not, I repeat...DO NOT use the scale as a judge. I can assure you that you weren't replacing fat with muscle that fast unless you had a surplus of calories or did some seriously intentional meal timing. I've added 8-10lbs from a night of drinking but it was just water weight. The mirror and the measuring tape are much better indicators of progress. Yeah I know the 6 pounds was not related to muscle - it was mostly water with no doubt some fat. I was just noting that to demonstrate how drastic my body responded to the change. The new challenge is to find a daily diet that is more sustainable than what I've been doing to lose the weight. And I agree with you on the scale. Waistline almost never lies.

I have been since Jan 22. Lost 40 lbs on it. Hit the plateau but now getting past that finally. How did you get last the plateau? I have been eating 20 or less carbs per day. I'm 6'3" and went from 325 to 280 from January to March. But now, I'm bouncing between 280 and 290 and can't get past it to my target of 250.

...it only works without cheating in my own experience. Cheating on this diet can set you back days, if not weeks depending on how well your body switches between glucose/ketones. This has been crazy for me. I did low carb a few years ago and it was unbearable. This time, we started doing a cheat day on the weekend. It made it easier for me, and I still lost weight. But this is most likely the cause of my plateau. I'm now taking a break for a week or so, then starting back with no cheat days. Maybe that will do the trick and get me losing again.
