I have done it quite a bit, but mainly back during my working days when it was a time issue. It gets dark around 5 in deer season, so I would go back to camp after hunting, eat supper, then go hang a stand. Most nights there is enough light to do it without using a light.

One time I jumped a buck out of his bed in mid afternoon. I went in that night and hung a stand using screw in steps. I slipped into it before daylight and realized when it got light that I couldn't see 20 yards because it was so thick. But about 7:30, along came the buck.

All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.

I would much rather move one midday. I won't move one at night. Besides deer move more at night and i would think you would spook more deer at night. Deer in Alabama wander, i don't see deer using the same trail, or entry point all the time. When i place a stand, its because the sign told me to put one there, i'm not going to move it just because a deer is outta range a couple times.
