I separated so that I could cut the sun hemp. Clay peas are on the left and sun hemp on the right. I planted 50 lbs of iron clay peas and 25 lbs of sun hemp.Soil test recommended 40 lbs of potash per acre. The field is roughly 2 acres so I broadcast 80 lbs of potash along with 40 lbs of nitrogen. I have 2 strands of an electric fence up until it gets established. This is a trial so hope it works!!!

A few years ago I tried planting the entire field in soy beans without a fence. They didn't get 3" tall and the deer mowed them down. Another year I tried clay peas without a fence. They mowed them down as well. The only thing I have had success at growing here is corn. The problem is the corn gets smaller with less ears every year. I'm trying to find something To grow that will help my soil and keep the deer on my property. If this works I plan on doing a rotation .
