This gun belonged to my Great Grandfather Roberts, it's in decent shape still, would be better but my daddy carried under his truck seat. Anyways I'm trying to figure out a manufacturing (it has several dates on the barrel) date. An Aldeer Member helped me find a date before, but I can't remember who it was..It has two different serial numbers, the number behind the cylinder is different than the one on the barrel and handle..

Still have the same holster he purchased for it. Forgot the name brand but it has 1906/1925 stamped on it..

Different serial numbers would indicate repair/rebuild at some point in it life. Also, some S&W have serial# under the grip.

Regardless of that, you have a priceless family heirloom.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

That's what I was thinking. Yeah I miss my Ole Grandpa, he's been gone for 20 years now and he was a hoot..

S&W can tell you for a few dollars. Think it's $30 probably wrong though my info's old.

48028 is an assembly number. It will be found on both parts, the barrel and frame. Its only used to keep the parts together during manufacturing.
I suspect there's no model number. I think yours is a K frame of the 1902 model.
You can contact S&W for the exact date of manufacture.

It appears you have a .38 Military & Police Model of 1902-1st Change. Barrel should be marked "38 S&W Special CTG&U.S. Service CTG". Either serial number would be 1903-04 manufacture date.

I've got one very similar to it, it was my grandmother's fathers he was issued while on the railroad. She passed away a few weeks ago and I had forgotten it was there. Need to get it in the safe.

Man that's cool my Great Grandpa retired from the railroad maybe he was issued his. Too bad either are around for me to ask. Sorry to hear about your grandmother's passing. Well just talked to my Father and he apparently got his when he was an auxiliary cop in Biloxi, and that was just before he joined the Railroad

Cool, my great grandfather was from Mississippi too, Meridian. I have a friend who has a Smith I believe older than these that was originally chambered in 38 S&W and was redone in 38 Special.

I am not an expert on S&W revolvers models and serial numbers and I can't look at them and tell you by the screw spacing which one is which, etc. However aside from that to me it looks like a Victory model that was nickle plated. There us to be someone that imported them in Florida that nickle plated them and put the stag grips on them just like the one you have. Which is why I possibly recognize it. I have one too a Snubbie by Grandfather kept in his cash box at his store. They hacked some of the Barrels off and made snub nose out of them, there were tons of them around 38 S&W converted to 38 special after WWII into the 1960's for commerical sale.

If I saw it laying on a table at a Gun Show that is what I would recognize this as being. But again I'm no expert on this vintage S&W revolver.

If you look at the frame under the grip see if there is a "V"

Yep, so many there is no way to tell from the picture that was posted. Mine is a good shooter and has an excellent trigger. 1902 is round butt frame. 1902 Square butt is VERY rare most collectors have never seen one.

James take the grip off and post a picture of the bottom strap. Flip it over and take a picture of the other side of the pistol as well.
