That's interesting. I never knew there was 2 birds that made close to the same sound. After listening to both of them, I reckon I've heard both.

As a side note, who knew SBS's old roommate was a song bird expert??!!??

I never knew there were 2. The Chuck Wills were wound up around me this morning.

I hear them rarely around my place but dude when I hunted Ft. Hood Texas I swear, it was a Whipporwill/Chuck's Will sanctuary!! Sounded like a million of them in the woods out there...

I learn something new every day. I reside and hunt in IL with plenty of Whips and Chucks sounding off in the dark and blue. Never knew what they were until now....thank you. We opened this morning and the Whips start first, with the Chucks right behind them. Didn't fill my tag but sure enjoy listenting to the cadence of song bird and having different species land on limbs right next to me. I guess that's what happens when you get older and don't tag out on the opener.

I've been hearing both. I always thought they were the same bird.

Looking at a range map - anything south of Hwy. 80 is likely a Chucks will-widow, most of the year.

I thought it was the same bird, but we evidently have an abundance of both around central Alabama. I listen to both of those almost daily.
