I can't believe we're completely through with one day and there isn't a thread yet. Come on even if you don't like golf but your from the south you should love the masters. Today was rough similar conditions to what most of us felt today, very windy! Like seeing Dufner near the top. Should be a fun weekend of golf!

Never played buts seems to be a heck of a social event with the right group of people. Many hand shacking deals made on golf courses. I made sure both my boys learned how to play. Business

Watched it all day, streaming online and on Golf Channel.

Wouldn't be surprised if Justin Rose or Thomas Pieters wins, especially if the wind keeps kicking. Hoffman and McGirt - good stories and if they can keep it together, that's great. But I don't think it'll happen.

Hoffman played the round of his life today in those conditions. I suspect he'll fade and today's round will be a distant memory by Sunday.

I'd like to see Jason Day put together a good round tomorrow and be in the mix for the weekend. It'd be a hell of a story for him to win it, considering what he's been dealing with.

Don't care for golf myself but I wired power and communication for ESPN at the Nike tournament at Cherokee Ridge and it was like the Stones were in town.

And that was just for the then-Nike tour. Imagine a PGA event. I've been to Web, PGA, LPGA and Champions (seniors), all of which were televised in some way, and the logistics of the PGA folks in all aspects just blows things away.

But then again, aside from the 125/150ish best golfers in the world, you're typically dealing with courses, country clubs and elite private clubs with members who demand and expect the best. Going to Shoal Creek for the Champions events always was a treat because it's maintained so well. Can't wait to see the Women's US Open there next year.

My takeaway from day 1: what the heck is wrong with Bubba Watson? Guy used to be fun to watch but now I'd rather hit him in the face with a 2x4.

I normally only watch 2-3 tourneys a year, so perhaps I missed his diva-ish makeover last year.

He's just so OCD that it's magnified in something like this when he's on camera more often.

But yeah, he's a pill to watch. Everything that doesn't go exactly like he believes it should or wants, something's wrong. Someone's to blame. It was because of that twig or the bumblebee farted or the ball's rotational axis wasn't aligned with his left nostril.

I know Bubba pretty well. He has a lot on his plate right now. Owns a candy shop, just became part owner in a car dealership, owns part of the Blue Wahoos minor league baseball team. I think he will settle down and start concentrating on his golf game soon.

I don't think that was the posters point. I believe he was referring to the appearance and general consensus on tour that Bubba is a self absorbed a-hole. I think it might actually be social anxiety but he doesn't handle himself well on the course or around a lot of people.

Bubba can appear to be an a-hole at times. He did not have the best upbringing! I actually coached golf at the HS where Bubba, Boo, and Heath played. (I did not coach any of them, but I did coach Lee Trevino's son) The teachers and administration used to talk about Bubba and how he would never make it because of his attitude. I remember saying, "Have any of you ever seen him play golf?"!!

He's an incredibly talented golfer, no doubt, as is Boo and the other top pros. They all have quirks and high expectations. Bubba's are more magnified, I think, because he doesn't always have a filter on what he says, especially when he's upset. Love watching him play, though.

I followed Boo around at the Barbasol last summer, I think during the third round with Baddeley (who won). Maybe it was the second round. They were fun to watch.

Not the first time I've heard of someone wanting to take a swing at Bubba.

Boos family is very close to ours. Boo loves to hunt and fish way more than he loves golf! At the players in Jacksonville one year, Boo hollered real loudly at my brother, while he was playing in a match. He said, "Hey Jeff, there is a ten lb bass over here in this lake." The crowd loved it.

Since I don't know who Boo is, should I not plan on an invite to the Golf Nerd Ball next year?

Sorta rooting for Sergio ahead of Seve's bday. Lots of story lines to follow. Wouldn't mind seeing Hoffman, Spieth or Ricky win and hoping Freddie makes a run.

Heck of a shot there on 15 from 200+ out. He's making a run.

I don't really think so. He hit the putt on 18 in regulation exactly where he wanted to. He's usually as good as anyone under pressure.

I was talking about his tee shot in the playoff.

He did choke. His competition just didn't capitalize. I don't understand the love for Sergio. He's always come across as a prick to me

Apparently you did not watch the event. Incredible shot making by both Sergio and Rose coming down the stretch

You miss a 5 footer to win the Masters, that equals choking to me. The tour average is 75% on a 5 footer.

And I'm always amazed at the people that open obvious golf topics to tell others how much they don't care about it.

They don't make 75% on Augusta greens to win the Masters.
If you don't like him; fine. The guy came from behind to WIN the biggest event in golf; how is that choking?

Sergio didn't choke. The other guy did, hitting the ball in the woods on the playoff hole.

doesn't seem like rocket surgery.

Sergio missed a 6' right edge putt to win it in regulation. ANGC greens are brutal, but that putt was not. He makes that putt 9/10 times. Pressure got to him, if you want to call it choking, he choked.

Then in the playoff Justin Rose piped one into the woods, then chunked it back out into the fairway barely to sergios ball. Then didn't hit his 3rd shot as close as Sergios 2nd. He choked.

Sergio made great birdie on the playoff hole, so it doesn't matter.

Had some side jobs to finish yesterday and didn't start watching until 9pm. Dozed off and on and at 0115, I was watching Rose line up his putt on the 18th.

Recording ended.....
