I normally use a CC for everything and pay it off every two weeks. But I also carry some cash usually at least $500. But I don't think I would spend any less or any more if only had the cash or the credit card. Never had a debit card.

I swear some of the folks on here would pay in shells and ride in horse drawn buggies because they refuse to understand technology. And when the banks crash you will be begging us for food. You would be dead on! Went on a road trip a few weeks ago, stopped for lunch. Pretty simple until it was time to pay. The Credit Card machine wouldn't take but 1 transaction without rebooting several, several times. Cash was king as people left cause they couldn't order and pay for their order cause they didn't have any cash. It's recommended to have cash on hand during storm outages. there's your sign

I can't understand people telling me the correct way to spend my money. I have a credit score of zero. Doesn't bother me. Have never owned a credit and that seems to bother others more than me. 1.5% back on a credit card?? Where does that money come from? Credit card co. let participants cut into their profits? Don't think so. Its YOUR money they been using interest free. Just like an income tax return. I have no need for one. How do you know that your credit score is zero? And why did you check it? I pay everything on my credit card. How do you think a BANK works? I get anything from 1.5 to 5% from the cards. I don't get shucks from my bank by using my debit card or a check. Do you get paid in cash? As someone else said, the credit card companies charge a fee to the place where you used the card. Why would you not take advantage of that? It is the ONLY WAY to make a little change on the money that you are spending! The fact that some folks don't realize this is amazing!

I have said it before, if I have cash than I am much more likely to spend it all much quicker than using a credit or debit card. If I have cash sitting in my wallet then I want to spend it. I hate to swipe my card and see that money withdrawn from my account. I have always been like that. I use my credit card and pay it off each month and get the cash back. I am 22 years old and have a house of my own and am not turning away free money. I have been doing that since 18 and have built up an amazing credit score which paid off when getting into my new house with a great interest rate. I also don't carry a lot of credit card debt, only what I can handle. I know its easier said then done, but having bills has helped me remain well disciplined. A word to the wise, if your credit card bill isn't completely paid off at month's end, you're not very disciplined and should probably cut up the card.

Your confusion is certainly understandable and there is probably no way for me to explain it to you in a way you would understand. Suffice it to say not everybody is going to walk your walk. It doesn't mean they are wrong or right. It just means they look at things differently and may have different priorities.

Some people simply aren't "credit card" people. One of my buddies said so himself the other day when we were having a similiar convo as this. He admitted he just doesn't have the discipline to use it properly- many don't. There have been times when I haven't. I have floated my bill to the next month when my cash flows got tight. But I don't let it get out of control - that's the difference. I do enjoy the rewards and sky miles.
Having credit is a powerful thing. I have AMEXs & a VISA with a combined purchasing power of $60k+ in my pocket.
That would be a pretty fat stack of cash to tote around. In an emergency situation that could come in handy.

I'm friends with a guy that owns a very successful buy/here carlot. He hates taking payments over the phone because of what they charge. 3% was the last rate I heard from him. What does he do? Charges the customer, just like any other business has to do. Like he said 3% of 100,000 is 3000 damn dollars. If Walmart has to give 3% of all credit card transactions to capital one they will without a doubt pass it down the line. Like you said if you can get any part of extra money you had to spend due to the credit cards having businesses by the balls and charging them accordingly then do it. I've had to do one unauthorized transaction on my 1 credit Card in my 10 years of having one and it was easy as pie to get out of paying for a thief.

When credit cards begin to hurt WalMart's margin, they will create their own cards and pretty much kill MC and VISA. They already have a direct deal with the credit card companies. They have cut out the processing companies and their cost are far less than other merchants. I don't know for sure but I'd bet their effective rate is less than 1% over all.
