I used to catch a good bit of bream back when I was a kid on the Warrior River near old Highway 78 (as opposed to I-22). I haven't been by there in 15 years. My three year old has been telling me every thirty minutes for two months, "Dada, do you know it is almost fishing season?" So, I am going to take him sometime in the next week. Is there still an operable boat launch under the bridge? There used to be a place to by crickets within a few miles of the river on the east side? Is that place still there? If so, what is it called? If not, where is another place to buy crickets? Also, it would be unbelievably cool if someone had a farm pond that they would let him come bust some bream out of. We will travel pretty much anywhere in the state. This little boy went fishing for the first time last year and loves it more than anything else.

There is a boat launch under the river bridge still. No place left that I know of to buy bait up that way.
Before I drove from trussville to there Id hit oak mt lake, or run up to gadsden or pell city or lake purdy.

Yeah I was thinking Lake Purdy based on where you're at too.

I have fished at all of those places and have never caught bream as consistently as I did off the downed trees in the Warrior.

Where you are talking about the boat launch under 78 I dont think there are any downed trees left there that I remember seeing from the bridge. I used to launch from there but the break ins got so bad there I quit using it a few years back.

Smith lake dam is another easy to get to spot where you should be able to catch bream all day long with some worms.

Gees landing has crickets I think and I know the bait shop at the Walker County lake has crickets in it as well.

yeah break ins got real bad at that ramp under the hwy 78 bridge there, Lisa Taylor Wallace bridge I believe it is called. there is a launch several miles east of there up in Sipsey right where the Sipsey fork and Mulberry fork come together. its right behind a Texaco station that used to sell bait. been several years so I cant swear they do now but if worse comes to it you can dig up some worms right there by the launch.

Go with the flow and you will end up down the drain!

I wouldn't go to lake Purdy ....I live very close to the lake and drive by it often 2 times a day, the drought hurt the fishing at the lake it was about completely dry.
