Watched some birds on some private and that bordered the local WMA yesterday. Thought they were using the private land to roost. I got in early but it was so dark to see without a light (which I avoid) and a made too much noise getting in. I busted a least three birds that flew the valley to the other side of the WMA trying to get to the corner line. After getting set up at the line two birds gobbled above and behind me on over my left shoulder on the WMA. Just to mentioned that it's so steep you need a small tree to put your foot on from sliding down. So....I was pinned down, but could see them roosted about 120 yards away over my shoulder. I wait till they hit the ground and made a circle to get above them. I setup on a lead heading out of some some pines that headed into some open hardwoods. I set out an Avain X hen about 30 yards down the lead towards the open hardwoods. No longer did I set the hen out, I made a call before heading back to my setup. I had just got back to my tree, and I had a bird fly up 30 yards from me looking at the decoy. He turned a little and I saw a beard. I think he saw me and the decoy and couldn't determine what to do. He took a truck ride for limb hopping on me. Sorry for you purist and he didn't gobble to the gun. I'll take a WMA bird everyday that ends in y. 19.5lbs 11" beard 1 1/8" spurs Good 3-4 year old in the mountains. Yekrut special diaphragm
