Alcoholism is a brutal thing. I just went through dealing with a buddy that was going through withdrawals and experiencing delirium tremens and i almost has to baker act him. A true alcoholic is hard to understand unless you witness it, and most people think it's just a drunk. A physical addiction to alcohol and a drunk are 2 completely different animals.
I'll pray for your family, but If alcohol is the problem the wife of your children may end up dead if she doesn't get help and support. Is she a good mom and wife when she is sober? She is a good mother.I'd never take that away from her..Here lately she's been slacking. She missed our daughters 1st softball game Saturday because of work.Thing is every single Lady that works in there has at some point since she's worked there called in last minute and my wife always works for them.So when I said something about missing our daughters first game and she brought up work I told her I didn't wanna hear that cause if she really wanted to be there all she had to do was tell her boss..She has always been a great person and mother but since her mom and dad passed in 2012 everything has fell apart. She's so far from the woman I married that I feel like I don't even know her anymore..And when she drinks she very seldom gets drunk..She will drink a case of beer, watch the sun come up and sleep a few hours before she gets her day started..I drink 6 beers I feel terrible the next day.I don't know how she does it but her health is gonna deteriorate. She has already had a few episodes where her blood pressure jumps, hard to breath, chest pains and heart racing but she won't go to the doctor and she won't even hear of her quiting drinking and smoking.

Trox - A good acquaintance of mine is a "high functioning alcoholic", which sounds eerily similar to the situation with your wife.
It is possible that your marriage may be over; however, I think it would be wise to try to help her for the sake of her and your children. I've personally never been involved with an intervention; however, I think it might be fruitful to speak with a treatment center about what would be the best approach in helping her begin to deal with the issue. I do believe that if she were able to see herself for what your children see - then I would hope she would want to change.

She doesn't have a problem..That's what she says anyway.Believe me I have tried time and time again to talk to her about it but she just gets mad and won't even talk about it.Now she don't drink every night by no means..It use to really only be on weekends..But that has turned into a few nights a week of her drinking and it may not be but 4 or 5 beers but it's gradually getting worse.I mean when she comes in from work with a 12 pack and 6 are already gone from her drinking at work she's got a problem.
