For the life of me, I can't understand why a small oil filter for a mower costs 2 or 3 times as much as a similar size automotive oil filter. Does anyone use a $5 Fram filter instead of the $15 -20 Briggs or Kohler filter?

Sometimes oreilly, autozone, or advance will have mine and it's cheaper

I use the Kohler filter because I paid more for a lawn mower than I ever imagined. Mowing nearly 4 acres so I need it and I can't afford to take chances.

I sell lawn mower filters where I work. We don't fool with Kohler or Briggs branded filters because you are paying twice the price to have a name stamped on it. Ours are about $6.00 for a Briggs or Kohler engine.

haleyville al,
I've ran stp fliters for years on my mowers. The branded filters are no better. Now I work at a mom and pop parts store I will run Baldwin or wix.

I get a NAPA for my JD ( which turned out to be the same filter for the 05 Camry my wife had) for about a fourth what the dealer charges for the one with a picture of a deer on it.
