I filled my unit with r-40 last spring, cooled during the summer, and it quit blowing cold air about the time duck season hit. I know I got dirty coils, but it's a pain to get to and it's an old unit anyways. Who makes the best 2 ton central system?

You put what refrigerant in it?
I prefer American Standard/ Trane.

Trane/American Standard according to Consumer Reports.

Trane hands down the best.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

Trane hands down the best. We were a Trane dealer for 40 years and switched to American Standard a few years back. Can't go wrong with either considering they are manufactured in the same plants.

The one that's maintained the best, lasts the longest. Trane isn't any better quality than carrier, Bryant, American standard, and others. And that's coming from someone who set about $300k worth of trane units on rooftops last week. If they aren't any better, what was your reasoning for choosing them? Just curious if it was price, relationship with contractor etc. Fo the op: Fwiw, I work on all makes and models from all sizes. I do think AS and Trane are superior to other manufacturers in quality as well as dependability. Typically they are going to be slightly more expensive. Like everyone else said, keep the filter changed and coils clean and that'll go a heckuva long ways.

You can stop a Rheem. I had one installed for my last house. It was a POS from the getgo. It could have been the contractor though. I don't think they are in business now. No, you got a regular Rheem. Google their class-action lawsuit. My installer had to come back out and install a new nickle plated coil after only 3 years BRAND NEW. He did a good job and it works great now.

Aren't a lot of American Standard units made in Panama City, Florida? Panama city, Fl.- Tyler, Tx- There's also a plant in New Jersey and Arkansas. Don't know about any other plants that come to mind. I've been to the plant in Tyler, Tx. It is beyond impressive.

R-22? Everything has gone to 134A pretty much.

all have Copeland compressors and GE motors. Whats left? Don't know what r-40 is. Do you mean 410A Trane and AS manufacturer 95% of their compressors. They have certain aspects that are patented. Here recently they have been out sourcing several high end compressors to Copeland, but they are still under a patent or some sort. As far as motors, you're correct. GE, Emerson, genteq, fasco. Seen em all in all the units.
