It is looking very very likely that I am going to be getting this outside sales job.

I am going to be driving roughly 50,000 miles a year so the following are important.
Comfort, safety, amenities, and efficiency.

The territory is essentially the entire state of Alabama and slightly into Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia.

The car per my understanding is going to be working like this.
Each month I'll be given $400-450 a month for the car and insurance.
Then the fuel will be based on 25MPG, so anything I get better than that I get to pocket.

Unfortunately, I won't likely have a downpayment but my credit score is good(730).

I am heavily looking at the Hyundai Elantra Value edition.
It seemingly has everything and the price is right as they can be had sub $19K with quite a few nice amenities.

Anyone have any other suggestions on vehicles for someone young getting into outside sales?

My daughter-in-law puts that kind of miles every year on a car. She's a pharmaceutical rep.

She's on her second Toyota Camry. She sold the last one for $5,000 with 395,000 miles on it. It was an 07 model. I would think an Elentra would be a little small.

How big of a fella are you? That would help and what do you need as far as hauling around work related items?

My Mom is a pharma rep.

It seems like with cars you either pay it on the front end (Toyota&Honda) with a higher initial purchase or you pay it on the back end with (Kia&Hyundai) with likely lower resale value.

I am leaning towards a Hyundai for the warranty and they're a client.
Thinking it certainly couldn't hurt to show up in a client produced vehicle.

The rep I would be partnered with has a Toyota Avalon which rides like a dream, he purchased his used but very low miles.

6' 165lbs

In terms of supplies/samples it will be a suitcase for overnights and a trunk full of supplies.

I will rarely but likely never have clients in my vehicle so using the back seat is perfectly fine for supplies/bag.

Have you looked at the Honda CRVs. Kinda a mid size SUV. Comfortable seats

Camry. It's nothing special but it is best in class for reliability and it gets great gas mileage.

I know as sacrilege for me to say this, I have actually looked at slightly used Toyota Priuses like something with 15,000 miles, so someone else eats that initial depreciation.

Getting double the gas mileage would net very large gas checks, but I'm just can't get over how ugly they are though.

Can't go wrong with the Hyundai, but with that much windshield time, I'd go with the Sonata, rather than the Elantra.

I second the sonata being behind the wheel that much. Newer ones are very comfortable

I'd get a base model Camry or Corolla, 4cyl. Reliable, good MPG, plenty of space, just as nerdy as the Hyundai. No reason to get an SUV if you don't need the storage space--less mpg, tires cost more, upfront cost is more, etc. But keep in mind the new job may not work out long term...so you'd probably want to purchase something that you don't mind keeping for years if that happens. Let us know what you decide.

I doubt the hybrid is worth the additional expense if you're doing mostly interstate driving.

My FIL drives all over doing outside sales, about 3-4k miles a month. He always has driven a Ford Explorer. A few years ago he got a Lexus rx something but it was a hybrid. Great gas mileage only true down side was no local mechanic wouldn't touch a hybrid had to take it back to Lexus for service, something to keep in mind is service. He swapped it for an Explorer after 2 years. I personally drive about the same as him doing sales and service and drive a Nissan Sentra. In city its 23ish mpg an hwy is 30ish and repairable at any mechanic easily. Just a though depreciation aside repairs are huge in a sales/driving job. Generally they wont cover repairs beyond your current allowance so costs are vital.

It isn't listed on that link, but I would want XM radio regardless of the car you choose. It looks like you are going to be spending a lot of time in that car.

I cover AL/MS/LA/NW FL. Average 18.5 MPG driving about 800-1200 miles a week( depending on where I go).Lot of interstate, but some small county roads too. 4 door that carries everything i need and has room to spare. service it every 5000 miles. Very comfortable. company vehicle, but I got to pick it. It is...
2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 4WD. Actually like it better than a Tahoe.
