What do they do with old rail road ties? Not far from my house they have a lot of them stacked up along the side of the rail road and I was wanting to know who I could ask about getting some

If you take any of those the railroad detectives will be on you like white on rice. They are serious about that stuff.

Honestly they can't let you get them even if they wanted to. It's a liability deal.

The roadmaster used give out permits to get all you want but now they have contractors that buy them that's why they are stacked up.they come in and get em to resale. At least that's how CSX does it. We can't even get em as employees anymore

If there's a Marvin's near you they usually have decent ties for sale.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I've been "told" I could get a haul permit from the folks at "the office" but I've never found anyone willing to write me a paper permit to get em, several have told me to "just get what ya want"......
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I doubt anyone would steal a bunch of them.
They are heavy as hell.

They are actually supposed to be removed within 180 of the work being complete in that area as per the rules. Does that happen, no. I have seen piles that have set so long that they had trees growing out of them. And I have also seen some pikes that "magically" caught on fire and burnt to the ground.
I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

I used to have a hook up on cross ties from a yard in west jefferson... friend of a friend deal. He would let us in and bring a lull and we would load a trailer till it would bend

The ones we got didn't last very long. They rotted from the inside out within 5 years. I will never use them again on a fence corner. They would work for landscape, but not for many years in contact with the ground. They rot super quick.

They will sell them to you at the scrape yard on Hwy 140 (River Rd) in Selma, they are located a few miles down the road from the IP mill in Selma. They grind up the worst ones and IP buys them for fuel for the bark boilers. They are all the time shipping them up/down the road for resell.
If your interested I'll get you some contact info. Last time I got some they had different grades of them, which the price reflected that. Yea, that's where I was talking about. Isn't that Burnsville? I would like a price on the best quality they have
