OK,I'm starting to look for a used ATV for this falls season. I've seen some 2001-2005 on CL for $2500 (+/- 500) and seen some 2011-2015 for $5500 +/-. I don't want a racer, just something to go down a road or fire break and haul a deer if I have to. Are the older models ok? I don't need power steering and shucks like that, but I hate to not fork over another couple grand for something newer if it's really that much better. Thoughts?

Have a 350cc 4x2 with a winch that may go more places than the 600cc 4x4. The smaller seems to be more maneuverable in tight spots driving thru the middle of the woods. If your going to be pulling a disk or some kind of mower the more cc's and 4x4 is nice. Big fan of hondas and yamahas. Pops has a Polaris and it seems reliable but it ain't a Honda.

Yeah, I like my name-brands (Honda, Yamaha). Doubt I will doing any ground work. No snorkels for me........#trannyproblems.

I agree with the above suggestions of Honda or Yamaha. I went through this decision six years ago and settled on Yamaha due to features and ability to drag a plow. My Grizzly 700 has been flawless and continues to exceed all expectations. I'm sure a Honda would do the same.

Dont have to have power steering just make sure you can shift in and out of 4x4. full time 4x4 is hard on rider and hard on atv X2

Why is full time 4x4 hard on the rider and the machine? I've never owned an ATV, but am also considering buying one this summer. Thanks.

Ask them if they ever pulled a disk with it. You can really over heat one doing that. If they say no, that's a plus.

My Honda Rincon 680 has got hot and shut off before. I've got a really heavy duty disk and I add two locomotive knuckles to it. I don't think anything smaller would stand up to the abuse.
