Today's Press Release from the DCNR.
With an AT BEST 35% Reporting Rate for a Legally Mandatory Reporting System -- Game Check is Deemed an Overwhelming Success...

Quote:

Sykes was happy to report that as of February 9, about 81,000 deer harvests had been reported through Game Check for the 2016-2017 season. The WFF staff estimated the rate of compliance at about 35 percent.

“I was cautiously optimistic that our hunters were going to buy into the program,” said Sykes, who personally conducted 44 of the 50 Game Check seminars held last year. “We’re not 100 percent, but it’s lot better than where we were.

“Our staff has conducted some informal surveys. We were betting we would have 20- to 25-percent compliance. It’s looking like it’s better than that. It’s about 35 percent. Thirty-five percent for Alabama in the first year, I think is a monumental success.”

Game Check data showed that there were slightly more bucks than does harvested. With that compliance figure, Sykes said the estimated deer harvest for the just-finished season was about 122,350 bucks and 101,000 does harvested for a total of 223,350 animals.

Sykes would like to see hunters increase the use of the Outdoor Alabama app on their smartphones. About 46 percent of the hunters used the app. About 30 percent used the telephone system, and 24 percent used the Outdoor Alabama website.

central ala,
Well, I am not real good at math but if 35% = 81,000 then they KNOW about 230,000 deer were killed. So it wasn't an off year. And they have their first data point....that is back to guessing.

So they are still sticking to that guess of 250,000+- and just have to adjust their reported percentage to prove it? Hell to the NAH, NAH.

Be thankful we aren't like other states who fine those who do not report. Everyone who buys a license must report sucess' or failures. First year failure your license and tags cost an additional $10 each, second year is 25 and so on.

I have not seen anyone say that they did not use it. And, I do not know anybody that did not use it.
I do know a lot of guys that hunted this year and did not kill anything.

What they are really reporting is that they had 3-4 years to and a lot of money and political bickering that ended in a total and complete failure. 35% of a wild ass guess aint a success on any level. The entire lot of them would be fired for that kind of incompetence at a private company.

I laid hands on 20+ that didn't get entered.

I entered all I personally killed

I guessed it was more like 50% not entered, but not shocked at their number

And the fact that they had to put up likely illegal road blocks to up the numbers also shows just how terrible of a job they have done.

You have just admitted to committing a game violation.

Helping someone load a deer in a truck is violation?

Damn. Didn't know

I'll amend, I "assume" didn't get entered

Like I said,... I entered every one I killed

I entered the buck I killed in game check in Alabama and registered the one I killed in Illinois using their system. Alabama's was actually easier to use.

They don't have a clue what % it really was. I have a feeling it may have been greater than 35% but who knows and that is the problem. Most people I have talked to have reported lower sightings but thats a small sample. If they're going to continue to use the old #s to figure the percentage of reporting success what was the need for something new? At what point do you stop using the old #s to get an assumed deer harvest and start using the new game check numbers? Or will they just use their number assumptions that they want to use and continue to tell us what the percentage of people that are using game check? At what point do you start looking at these numbers as data that can be trusted, when it lines up with the #s you've been putting out? If not when do you change your numbers to match a guessed % from game check?
