Wow, where do I start! It's been a great year for all three of us. Each of us got 2 mature bucks. I'll start with my dad. His first buck, in Marengo county, was a 220 lb 6 point that walked out in the greenfield he was hunting not long before dark. His second, also in Marengo county, was a 200 lb 9 point scoring 130 3/8 that also walked out in a greenfield right before dark. He was watching another shooter buck when this one slipped out to the edge of the field. Congrats dad! Next to my brother. His first came off his father in laws place in Hale county. He had a lot of pictures of this buck in velvet and knew where he was hanging out. Beautiful 8 pt. His second, in Greene county, was a big 9 point, and here is his story... Shot a nice buck a little over two weeks ago. I was shooting .300 mag and every deer I've ever shot with this gun has dropped. Well this buck dropped then got up and ran off. I thought it was done deal so I didn't even shift another bullet into my barrel. Lesson learned: even if you drop a deer you need to always be ready for a second shot, like I said lesson learned. Anyway, He looked really bad hurt when he ran off but I didn't find any blood. The next day me and Dad called in a dog to help search for the buck. It rained real hard during the night. The dog searched around but no luck. Fast forward to two days ago. We were at our lease and decided to stop at our neighbor to ask if they had seen any sign of my buck. The lady says she saw a deer in their small pond. We ask if we could go look. She offers to take us to to the pond. We use her fishing rod to hook the floating deer. Once we get him to the bank we can see it has a rack. We drag his hairless carcass up the bank. We cut his head off and compare a pic where the deer fell in front of our game cam after being shot. After comparing the pic and the head we confirm it's my buck. (It ended up being a high gut shot.) We had no idea that little pond was so close to where I shot the deer or we would've already checked it out. Glad to at least retrieve the trophy after nearly two and a half weeks of no sleep. Now on to my deer, my first was at our private land in Pickens county. I had lots of pictures of this deer, but they were all at night. I hunted this place hard and never saw him. Finally one morning I was watching a gasline and a doe crosses about 100 yards down the gasline. I get my gun up because it was the middle of the rut, and 5 minutes behind her he stepped out, I shoot and drop him! Immediately call my dad, fist pumping air!! I tell him I finally killed the big 8pt. He and my brother are hunting with me that day, so I was able to share it with them!! Nothing better!! On to my second buck. It was at the same place my dads two buck came from, I was in my climber one morning and I hear antlers clanging in the thick stuff across the property line. It gets closer, closer, then I hear it on our side of the fence. I get my abolt up and woah, he steps out of the thick stuff 25 yards from me. I see it's a wide thick 10 pt. So I rest my crosshairs on him and squeeze the trigger, dropping him in his tracks. My dad wasn't 300 yards away in his stand, and starts texting me, but I have no service in the bottom I was in, so I get down, drop to a knee and say a thank you prayer to the great lord! Here is the pic of him!
