Ackley improve it and run some heavies is my vote What would be involved with doing the conversion/modification? How much would it run? More than it's worth on a factory gun. That's sorta what I figured. The cost is roughly $125. BUT... you could go a head and have the receiver trued while you were at it to further improve accuracy. Might be worth it in the long run. Depends on if you keep guns forever or sell/trade them on a whim.

I want to shoot lighter bullets in my 280 but she loves big bullets. She's a 1.25 MOA rifle with 140ish bullets but a 5/8ish one with 160 or 162s. I will get her reamed to 280 AI one day but not high on priority list.

Put your hands on a 1951 Winchester Model 70 in .300 H&H Magnum and gay doesn't cross your mind. Have a 1949 model. The steel butt plate on mine will get your attention when you pull the trigger. Barrel is inscribed with "300 MAGNUM". A lot of todays hunters would try to stick a 300 Win Mag cartridge in it, not knowing that the 300 WM wasn't introduced until 1963.
