I have lived in the best part of America history. I was born way back in the wood of Alabama to B.P. and Naomi Williams March20, 1938. That was before radio in those parts, along with electric lights. Heat was wood stove, or a foot of blankets when you went to bed and you could not turn over. No indoor bathroom only outhouse, maybe one or two holier, with Sears catalogue for paper. We drew water from a well or went to the spring. Gathered eggs for breakfast along with streak a lean bacon cat head, along with gravy. Coffee was something great, ice was under the house with sawdust on it to keep it from thawing out. There was a storm pit out back in case of bad weather and also Mama put her canned good there for safe keeping.
I am tired now so I will say good night and God Bless.

I am drinking from my saucer cause my cup has overflowed. Thank you Lord

Bobby, I want you to come fishing with me.
Sorry, Bobby. Guess the Billy came from worrying about a nephew.

One year older than my Mama. Sure wish she could type a thought and remember the good ole days like that!

Good post Mr. Bobby. God Bless you!

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Well done sir.

I bet y'all even had old fashioned hog killings in the coldest part of winter. I was lucky enough to participate in a couple of those when my uncle was still alive. Uncle, Aunt, parents, and good friends all participated. Sunrise was the killing, gutting and scalding. Then came the butchering and the women cleaned the chitlins, except my mom, she was too citified. Finally towards the end of the day my uncle ground up the less choice cuts into sausage and rolled them into little balls which he promptly fried in a big outdoor cast iron pot along with the fresh pork skins. The last thing that took place that evening was my aunt canning the sausage balls so they would keep. Yes it is much easier to go buy all that from a grocery store, but it doesn't taste nearly as good. Don't ever let someone tell you that the satisfaction of doing the work yourself doesn't make food taste better.

Bless you Geezer and all your generation that have tried to pass those traditions on to the rest of us.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Thanks for the post Geezer. You seem like the kind of fellow that many of us could sit the whole afternoon and listen to your stories about yesteryear. I'm old enough to experience hawg killing days, but I never had to pick cotton.

Daddy had to plow behind a mule from the time his older brothers went to fight in WWII until he got married and moved out. He had tried to convince Paw Paw to buy a tractor but he wouldn't do it. According to Daddy, Paw Paw supposedly had the money because he had a good job at the Steel mill in Gadsden at the time. Daddy's next oldest brother wasn't old enough to handle the ornery old mule they had at the time so when Daddy moved out Paw Paw bought an old 8N I think it was. Daddy stayed angry at Paw Paw for years over that.
