[quote=87dixieboy][quote=Johntravis89] Using a 300 win mag as an example, at 400 yard the bullet would drop around 2 feet. So the average height of a mature buck at the shoulder is 3.3 feet, I'm not sure how aiming at the back of the neck would have produced these results. So, you think he had his 300 Win Mag sighted in for 100 yards??? Not likely. If he was sighted in at 300 yards, that would be around a 9" drop at 400 yards. If the deer was running directly away, that would be possible.

At 400 yds running he would have had to aim at the back of the head. Im not saying it didn't happen, im just saying it doesn't add up. However with luck sometimes adding up doesn't happen.
Only accurate rifles are interesting.

Im not doubting that it isn't possible cause honestly in the heat of the moment and the big one is running away not many folks are going to have the capability to think to squeeze the trigger on a running shot, im just saying for all purposes if everything was perfect it shoulda been an azz shot

I'm not saying it happened or didn't happen, IDK, I'm just saying it is possible. About the only way possible, IMO, for a 400 yard running shot is if the deer were running directly away from you, especially if the deer had already taken one round. Also, from the chart I looked at, it would be around 3" high at 100, 4" high at 200 and zeroed at 300 and -9" at 400. A guy I hunt with has his rifle sighted in at 300 yards and actually killed a buck at around 345 yards this year. Of course it was not running

Zero'd at 250 yards with 150 grain bullet gets you right at 19 inches of drop at 400 yards. It's his lie though, he can tell it like he wants.

I shoot that far almost every time I go to the hunting land, have a 300, and it just makes no sense. Like I said though a lot has to do with luck.

It's possible that he jerked off and got lucky.

I shot a doe hauling ass at 250 yards once with a .270 and 140gr. Hornady BTSP. I aimed at the tip of her nose and hit her through the neck. My crosshairs were moving right in front to right behind her neck , probably a few inches below her head. Just trying to stay up with a deer running that far away was hard enough. I luckily made a connection. It was a god given birthday miracle. Wow! Just Wow! Well happy birthday I guess.

I don't like popcorn. Been putting a sick kid to bed. Haven't seen all these 135-145 deer. Jt does have some nice deer I'll give him that. He just needs to get thicker skin and realize he doesn't have to try and impress everyone here. Do I believe half the stuff he says...nope.Too many holes in half the stuff he posts. 400 yd running shot?
Like I said before I was just busting his chops. He's the one that got butt hurt. I wish the guy had 100 150in deer. It doesn't matter to me what kind of deer a person has. I'm sure all of us has stretched the truth on hunting stories before. One thing I will give JT credit for is he did finilly come clean and that was a hard pill to swallow. He needs to learn a little about jokes and stop taking everything to heart and so serious. Play along bud. No one is intentionally downing you. I was giving you shucks and you took it to heart lighten up a bit and roll with the punches. You getting all pissed and acting like a school girl is quite funny. The more people say the more you try to prove yourself on here. Who gives a shucks what anyone on here thinks? Idc what one person on here thinks of me...no one should. This is a great group of guys on here that enjoy reading everyone's stories. Just be ready for people to give you crap for the simple fact some of your stories are harder to believe because of your post about the big pen. I understand what your saying. But I'm not lying about my second shot. When he was on the run. I hit him dead on top of his spine. I put it right around his neck when he was running and squeezed the trigger. He dropped in the cotton and I didnt even notice. Until I walked down there and seen the cotton moving and I could hear something up ahead of me. Walked up and he was fading quick. One hole in the top part of the shoulder and then the chunk blew out the top of his back. There is exact details. So... Ya'll still have cotton up in the fields? They harvested ours months ago...
Did you know that Beer Nutz are over a Dollar...and Deer Nutz are under a Buck...
