Looks like Rtic will have to pay yeti, stop selling and redesign their coolers and cups before they can resume selling products.

Knew that would happen eventually. Next is going to be Walmart.

This is the real reason they RTIC dropped their prices recently. They were trying to get rid of inventory and make as much money as they could before they had to pay up.

I guess they sued them because of the RTIC price point more than the coolers? To me all the cups and almost all of the coolers sold by the different companies look the same or real close specially the cups..

I'm hoping this makes yeti drop their prices. It just proves to the world that the same cooler can be made and sold cheaper and still turn a profit.

When you save on all the research and development costs and just copy someone else's work, it also helps keep costs down

Glad I saw this. I already have a roto-molded 45 & 20 and have been thinking about ordering a soft sided 20, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger.

I wonder if Yeti will sue Walmart next and all the other copycats out there?

Having gone through the patent process on some extremely detailed industrial structures, I can tell you that patents are very detailed and narrowly defended. So it will be interesting to see if RTIC is going to have to change their stuff up much to comply.

Good. I hope Yeti ripped them a new one. It's sickening that it's so easy for someone to steal someone's idea that they developed, spent money on to produce and TOOK THE RISK to bring it to market. So many products like that now. Maybe it will help squelch the copy cats.

I get it on the hard side coolers but the soft ones aren't the same as the yeti.

Walmarts version of the cooler is totally different looking in comparison but their cups are the same. It will be interesting to see if Yeti wants to try and go up against a big dog like Walmart in court over the cups. I understand the fact that Yeti had to patent first and yada yada yada but going up against walmarts attorneys would probably be quite intimidating for a lot of attorneys.

If I was a betting man, I would bet that Yeti included some tolerances or parameters in that settlement that would dictate how much Rtic would have to change to comply with the settlement.

Agreed and didn't Yeti come out with a RTIC style bag cooler?

I knew about the lawsuit before I bought an RTIC last year. It won't keep me from buying another. RTIC will just change the design on the hard coolers.

Looks like RTIC released a statement on it too, basically saying they feel like it was a win.

I agree, the RTIC soft sides where nothing like the Yeti, much, much better actually with the zipper and opening design.

And as far as the hard cooler - I mean a cooler is a freaking cooler, the basics of that have not changed. All RTIC will have to do is prove they do something different in the manufacturing process.

Maybe instead of the guvment getting involved in such a manner that it hurts the consumer - how about they tell them to bring the manufacture of those coolers to the US and get out of China. I'd be willing to pay the premium prices for a US made Yeti - but sorry, if the crap is all going to be made in China - I'm buying the RTIC.

Exactly what I mean. My guess is that RTIC won't change much.

I believe that this is the case, and if it is, it looks like the case is limited to the tumblers...
