I was fortunate to connect with another mature buck last Friday afternoon. I don't have any pictures of this deer and at first look didn't even pick my bow up off the hanger. He showed up just before 5. He was the 4th deer I saw all afternoon. I initially thought he was a younger buck from looking at his rack. I watched him work a scrape, licking branch and rub all within 50 yards of my trees off the edge of the plot. As he closed the distance along the field edge, I finally decided he was mature and got myself in position to shoot. He walked right under my stand and let out 3-4 long, deep grunts as he approached the field. I got to full draw as he stepped into the field. He was facing directly away from me at 15 yards and as soon as he quartered slightly away I made the shot. Blood was pouring on impact and I heard him crash just off the plot behind some logging debris. That's a great feeling to know you just made a killing shot. The arrow had entered high at the back of the lungs and poked through under his arm pit on the opposite side. Probably had a little luck on that one because I could not have made a better shot from that angle. I waited until dark so my buddy could sit the rest of the afternoon. We followed a short blood trail about 30 yards off the edge of the field and made the easy drag back to the plot. Always nice to have a little help dragging and loading.
As I mentioned, I run a lot of cameras and never had a picture of this deer before last week. I pulled two camera cards around that field and this buck had been all over that plot last week. Praise God for the opportunity to enjoy his creation and allow us to chase this crazy deer.
Maybe I get lucky and fill all three buck tags with my bow. Still a few hunts left to try.

Time is 12 hours ahead.

Good deer!
But are you sure he's the same one as the one in the first trail cam pic? That deer looks like it has a messed up ear to me.
