I started doing exactly that this year. I'm using a Scott Exodus. I like not having anything on my wrist. I also have a Carter chocolate lite. It's a fine release as well.

I shoot a Scott that's handheld. I don't leave it on the string though. It only took once reaching to grab it and hitting the trigger and watching it hit the ground for me to realize I needed to find a different way. I do have a D-ring on one end and leave it attached to my D-loop while walking in or not in use. Leave it in a hand warmer that I wear either hot or cold while hunting. This was something I worried about at first. But I set the trigger pretty snug. It has never been a problem.

The Carters I use to use had a hair trigger. It came with wrist lanyard with a knot in the end. I'd loop the knot over the buss cables so if it released, the knot would snag.

I shot with a tru-ball max 3. Keep it connected to the rope on range finder

Swapped to a Tru Ball Max Pro 4 this year and like it a lot more than the wrist style that I was using.
