FYI…A couple of weeks ago I was watching "Turkey Man" Eddie Salter's television show, and they had a guy from up on the east coast around the New England States. This guy gets a call from his friend that there is a gobbler in his neighbor's back yard (in a subdivision). They get permission from the guy and shoot the bird from his back porch! Wasn't entertaining but it happened.

I know it doesn't and I could have killed the deer already if I really wanted to but I was just interested in what everyone's opinions were and enjoy reading them.

I suspect that the fact that you want to shoot this buck is, mostly, driven by a desire to be respected by your hunting peers. In a large portion of the culture of deer hunting, your merit as a hunter is measured by how large (rare) your best harvest has been. You are falling prey to appeasing this culture.

Few people want to admit that killing a B&C buck is as much good fortune and luck as it is anything else. Unlike "scent proof" clothing, or the most realistic deer call, or the purest deer urine, or the most accurate rifle, or the most comfortable tree stand - no one has found enough fools to make a living selling good hunting luck. However, if you're interested, send me $100 through PayPal, and I'll stick some needles in a 10-pointer plush toy and sprinkle some chicken blood on it for you.

Sorry for the tangent... but I would ask you to answer these questions honestly (to yourself, not necessarily on this board):

1) Would you even be considering killing this deer if it were a yearling spike?

2) If you could kill the 125 inch buck, but NO ONE would ever know but you - meaning no one would ever be able to see the buck, you'd never be able to claim having killed it, you wouldn't even have a photograph... would you still kill it??

What I'm saying is this: your only significant motivation for killing the buck is a misguided pursuit of glory. There is no glory to be had here (or in this case, there – in your back yard.) No one here really cares whether you shoot it or not. As long as it's legal, it's your prerogative. Just don’t come here looking for more respect or admiration.

In one sense, we already respect you: you’re in the brotherhood – we’re all out there fighting the struggle with you. We know how hard it is to see a 125” deer in Alabama. You aren’t any less than we are because you haven’t killed one yet. You shouldn’t feel that you will be “more” after you kill a big buck in your back yard.

And more, don’t expect many pats on the back when you post the pics and share the story of how you had to place the shot in this narrow space between the slide and the see-saw on your kid’s swing set.

Kill it if you want, but to me it would be no more of a trophy than killing one on a video game.

1. NO

2. NO..too small

if it was 140" then , yes, I don't kill big deer for anyone else but me. I have killed big deer (140++) that no one except close family saw and I posted no pics anywhere.

What outdoor skills sets would it require for you to KILL not harvest this buck? Would you really be proud of your biggest buck ever, simply because you shot him. You did absolutely nothing to earn the right to shoot this buck, other than buying a house in an area that he frequents. This is a subject that I am very familiar with, as we have numerous deer throughout our neighborhood which also happens to be inside the city limits. We all enjoy watching them and yes, I have dreamed of shooting a buck like a couple of the monsters that roam our sub-division but I would never seriously consider it.

However, my daughters X boyfriend and I stress X, decided that one night he was going to take the risk and shoot one of the big bucks, during the rut. He basically got out of his truck, walked up to within 35 yards of the 152" buck and shot him with his bow. He thought that I would be impressed and brought him to my house to show me at 11:15 pm. I was tempted to have him arrested on the spot but instead, I took the deer from him and donated it to Feed the Hungry and cut up the horns for the dogs to chew on.

Oh, and by the way, he stopped dating my daughter that night.

I hope you were only looking for support NOT TO SHOOT the buck from fellow Aldeer members. Unfortunately, there are some on here that have no respect for the animals we hunt, and obviously to a much higher opinion of themselves.

Take pics of the deer, set up a game camera and just enjoy watching him. Trust me, there would nothing good to come of it. Sorry for the rant, but I consider myself sportsman and a true hunter, and I hope you do too.

That is a slippery slope.

If its legal and you can deal with the neighborhood labeling, then shoot it.

Let me ask yall naysayers a question.
If your hunting property backed up to flounder pounders house and you knew that a 125 inch deer was nibbling on his rose bushes but was easiest to kill in the woods behind his house (which you could legally do) and you had this deer patterned and knew you had a high likelihood of killing him, would you turn your nose up and walk away? Hell naw you wouldn't. He said he owns a half acre of woods behind his house. If he sits in a stand in those woods and kills that deer with a bow then who in the cornbread hell are yall to point fingers at him and tell him he isn't a sportsman or his deer doesn't measure up to your standards. Is it because he watched him eat in the backyard with his own eyes instead of catching it on one of them cell phone trail cams on a food plot? I bet 3/4 of yall ain't ever laid eyes on a 125" deer in alabama in your life and are jealous as hell that he has an opportunity to kill one. Flounder, put that sucker on the ground and let the people who are jealous be jealous.

Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

Ah the neighbors killing their 3 eerrrr... NO buck limit on their 2 acre house lot.....
Story of my life and some awesome management by the state.
You guys have some strange, strange ways of condoning some actions while abhorring others. I'm sure y'all are ok with him tracking it across other peoples property too, judging by an earlier thread.
How about this old adage, "if you have to think about it, it's probabally wrong".

We make decisions every day of our life which help make and mold who we are. If it makes you happy and you have no reservations as to what your neighbors might think, say, or do, go for it.

As for me, I would not, no matter how big it is.

I don't live in a neighborhood..so I'm not sure that my opinion on this matter is really a apples to apples comparison..

But I've killed deer shooting from my driveway out into my pasture and didn't lose a second of sleep over it or anything like that. One of them was a deer of the same size as the one you are talking about.

You aren't killing the last sparkly midget unicorn on the face of the earth.

It's a deer.

I personally don't see it shaping the fabric of your being.

But maybe that's just me
