Today I decided to hunt a piece of public land I hadn't previously been to. So i went in blind to an area i had picked out from google earth. I got there and walked up on a few scrapes so i found a tree about 30 yards away to climb. About 4;45 a doe walked out and was walking right for a clear lane i had picked out previously. I got my bow ready and drew back just as she was about to step out. the wind shifted and she bolted. I quickly grabbed my grunt call and let out two short grunts The doe turned around and came back my way she walked about 20 yards from my tree but she never gave me a broad side shot finally she bolted again this time blowing and didn't come back. I just thought it was cool a deer responded to a grunt call that has never happened to me before,

I have had both bucks and does turn and come towards a grunt call, but never after one has already winded me. That's pretty cool. She may have been separated from her group and was looking to reunite with them. Maybe your grunt sounded similar to one of the group. Was it a mature doe?

No I don't think it was mature it wasn't a yearling but it wasn't an old nanny either
