EXACTLY. For pain meds, my doc prescribes Lortab or Vicodin and if I take enough of that crap to 100% kill the pain, I'm a slobbering, babbling fool that can't get up out of a chair, bed or the floor if that's where I happen to be. On the 1-10 pain scale it's about a 25

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Wiley I don't ever take narcotic pain killers as a general rule. I only took one the first night after my recent surgery, so I could sleep. I've about emptied that bottle in the past week. I'm taking 2 so I can sleep. Without that, I can't stand the sheet touching my foot.

I still haven't got the blood work back to verify the gout, but I don't think it can be anything else.

I had it, finally after a few weeks went to the doc. He gave me some shots of cortisone around the joint, since he was just a practical doc he wouldn't go into the joint. Well I went to Kentucky on a hunting trip and my buddy told me to drink a gallon and a half of water a day until it goes away. So I did that and it was gone in two days. So I dont know if it was the cortisone shot or the water or both but thank goodness its gone.

I've only had it once. It was triggered by a colonoscopy and then eating a lot of red meat later in the day. I woke up the next day with my big toe on fire. I did some reading and figured out it had to be gout, and that I would probably get over the first attack fairly soon, so I never went to a Dr. That was a few months back, and I'm thankful it hasn't hit again.

I've been living in constant pain for about 5 years now, but the gout is among the worst I've ever experienced. Prayers for all of you dealing with it.

I don't get it but about every 2-3 yrs. It typically happens if I don't eat well for a few days. I am currently going through one of the worst I've ever had. I've never got it anywhere but on my big toe. Right now its at my two middle toes on the top of the joints where the toes connect to foot. I've never had so much pain. I've done two doses of the apple cider vinegar with mother and water and it feels much better right now but that is the nastiest tasting shucks.

Use warm water and put in a tablespoon or two of local honey and squeeze in a 1/4 lemon. They will help it to go down and have some heath benefits as well.

My wife picked up some of the cherry juice that MM posted about. I just guzzled about half a quart.

How long does this crap last? I got a cortisone and pain killer shot Monday and started an oral course of prednisone yesterday. It felt better this morning but it's getting worse again.

Colcrys is what ya need in the short term Fur. It'll knock it out in a day or two. Then you can make changes, drink cherry juice , vinegar with mother , diet and such.

It's not the big toe, it's the base of the 2nd toe. Now the pain is working it's way up into the middle of my foot. On the top side of my foot, midway back towards my ankle, and the 2nd toe is still throbbing.

Sounds like a neuroma and/or the beginnings of a hammer toe. I have one and had the exact symptoms you describe. My ortho specialist said contributing factors are shoes that are too small and/or narrow in the toe box, thus making your foot scrunch in the middle, along with shoes/boots with inflexible soles, standing too often (pressure) and possibly other health problems that might contribute.

He prescribed some orthotics, said the hammer toe "is how it's going to be" for now -- could get worse over time, thus requiring surgery -- and for now for me to use the orthotics, get shoes with a wider toe box and possibly a half- to full-size larger for better foot expansion.

I've done all that along with dropping about 30 pounds, stretching and doing yoga, and it has helped. My foot pain is gone. I'm currently wearing Altra Lone Peak 3.0 shoes and will be transitioning my other jogging-running-workout shoes to them. They're great (for me).

See a specialist. I see this specialist at TOC in Huntsville and have been quite pleased. He played football at Duke and is considered one of the best foot specialists around.

I feel for you brother,I get flair ups at least 4 times a year.I take 300mg alipurinol daily as a preventive med,and colcrys when it flairs up. I have had it in both feet, and left knee at the same time,I tried to get an amputation to get rid of the pain, but they wouldn't do it. Some folks swear by endomethacine, but it never helped me,

Thanks Clem. I'm going to pursue medical options until I find out for certain what it is. I had considered tendonitis.

BTW, my father had the same issue. Pain behind second toe, etc. He also had hammer toe(s) and last autumn had surgery that included shaving the second metatarsal in the toe to straighten it, inserting pins, etc.

I will do EVERYthing possible to avoid doing that. He recovered and is doing well but that surgery disrupts nerves, creates numbness and can create inflexibility in the toes/feet. It's a greater alternative than crippling pain IMO but I don't want any cutting on my feet.
