Guntersville had 3 teams playing for championships today in the county tournament and all 3 won. Varsity boys, varsity girls and JV girls.
The varsity girls are the really cool story. They'd lost 12 straight coming into the tournament. I think last win was in late November. But they put together 3 wins and now they're champs. The beauty of tournament basketball.
Only 2nd girls county championship in school history. Last one was in '94.

Boy I miss playing High School basketball. Our team didn't lose a tourney my whole senior year until we lost the State Championship game. I want to think we won 5 different tourneys that year & Finished 31-3. Some of the best memories of my life come from that season.

Congrats to Gville. Cool story about that Varsity girls team.

That's awesome Batey. What position you play?
Another cool thing about last night was Suzan Shirley Howard was MVP when Gville won in '94. She's Douglas coach now and was at center court handing out the hardware last night. Just seemed fitting.

Guard. Pretty much the whole team was guards. We could run&gun, full court press like no other and absolutely shoot the lights out. Our only problem was that our tallest player might have been 6'3" on a good day. It never caused us a problem until the Finals when the team we met had the tallest team in the state. If I remember right, the starting 5 averaged 6'5 or taller.

Private School. rolleyes

Cool story about Douglas Coach. That is fitting.
