Been here since 5 this morning. Was in a horrible spot this morning found a better one for the afternoon. The biggest problem we've had today is limited shooting distance distance for clean ethical shots. There's 5 of us hunting down here. I had a doing a tending grunt about beside me this morning walking away from me all i could see was a tail flicker but never had a clear shot or i would have sent a round up the tail pipe, FIL had one walk through the thick stuff but never got a clean shot,BIL had a 4 point and 3 turkeys walk out on him but he never got a clean shot on. SIL didnt see squat

You seen many people?

We've seen about 10 trucks since we've been here. Its not to bad. Most are hanging around what they clear cut last year

That's where most folks were last gun hunt. I hope to be down there Thursday night.

Have you seen or heard of any chasing? Thought about getting over there. Found a great spot last time I was there where I saw ten.

Update simce i literally just got home. None of us still didnt put anything on the ground. FIL seen a undetermined point buck, came up from behind him and seen him blew and ran. He said all he got to see was horns and a white azz. BIL saw two does but another hunter spooked them when the other guy came in. After the hunter left around 3:30 he said he heard something behind him and when he turned around he kicked his backpack out of his climber it blew at him and ran. SIL was still nada, i seen a the strangest thing this afternoon i counted 19 squirrels seen one doe trying to slip out of a pine thicket when one squirrel seen her and ran up a tree and started barking at her them got on another tree closer to the doe and did the same thing till she blew at him. I might have ran her off because i started laughing all in all we had a good time and everyone had fun

Didnt hear of any chasing going on. One guy said his buddy killed a 150lb basket 7 point this morning

I use to hunt up there a good bit and killed some good deer up, I always done good the first few days of the year no matter what the weather was

I am going up there Friday. Never been there but a friend of mine has been there a couple of times. He got a doe a couple of weeks ago.

Where y'all hunting the Sam R Murphy?

I live and hunt just a few miles from Sam Murphy. Neither I nor my two nephews who hunt almost every day have seen any chasing or other sign of rut so far.

My go to spot was occupied this morning so I hit plan b. I hunted all but 2 hrs of daylight without seeing a deer.

I live in the middle of Sam R Murphy, land actually joins Sam R Murphy on all 4 sides and I've not seen any rut activity!

I'm hoping tomorrow morning is the kick off tho!! Just hoping and praying

The club I am in joins Sam Murphy on Simmons Road, I have hunted quite a bit this week and haven't seen squat. I hunted all day today stand from daylight to 10 slipped from 10-2 then back on a power line greenfield till dark and nada. I had one tend grunt for 30-45 mins in a cutover beside the power line green field this morning but never saw it.

They have killed a few younger bucks this week on the club but nothing spectacular. They should be getting fired up soon but based on my success so far this year what do I know.
