Always facing the direction I think the buck is coming from. I'm not gonna put something between him and I on purpose.

Ok suppose you're sitting on the downhill edge of a clearcut with deer approaching from your 9:00, 12:00, and/or 3:00? Hardwood creek bottom falling off to your 6:00. If you sit facing your 12:00 you stick out like a sore thumb. Will you still face the most likely approach? I'm pointing my stand at my 5:00 which allows me to shoot from behind the tree from my 11:00 to my 3:00 from the right side depending on how I stand and from my 9:00 to 10:00 from the left side with 10:00 to 11:00 being no shoot. This allows me to hide behind the tree while deer approach.

Bead this is the bowhunting thread, not what you screw to use your rifle. Get a x=gun Goober.

I sit at an angle to account for both because you don't know what direction that buck is coming from this time of year. The 9 point I saw Monday morning came from up high, but he could have just as easily came from any other direction trailing a doe.
Edit: He came from up high and from behind me. I would venture to say this time of year, I'll be standing with bow in hand for most of the hunt. I can't let a bruiser like that slip through my fingers at 10 yards broadside again. I'll jump out of my stand onto an arrow...

I hope we have once again reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. Theres a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: as government expands, liberty contracts. Ronald Reagan

I sit with back to tree facing expected approach, or at least quarter facing if I have a wide area I'm watching. In this instance, more than likely I've set up with the wind in my face.
