Well if the op wants a close range scope and longer range I'd say the vx6 2-12,Swarovski z6 1.8-10 or bushnell 6500 2.5-16x42 should fit the bill.
If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

I'm sorry if I came across as a know it all. I'll try to work on how I phrase my posts. I don't mean to sound that way but I guess sometimes I do.

I missed a nice buck because I had my magnification too high. Walked in on him while he was in a ditch. He was less than 20 yds and zig zagged running through the timber. Heck if I had open sights it would have been an easier shot. If I had it set to a lower lower he would have been on the wall. I prefer nothing over 9x in the woods. I had a leupold 2.5x8 that was great

Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

My experience with the newer nikons hasn't been great. I thought I would like the bdc reticle but ended up hating it. I had issues with another one when the illuminated center dot stopped working. I had 3 at one point and ended up getting rid of all of them and replacing them with leupold, vortex, and burris. My grandpa had an older nikon that was Crystal clear, but I am not impressed with the new ones. Plus any of the 3 companies I mentioned will have a better warranty than nikon. Yup placed a Nikon on my 450 last year, and on my last outing i noticed the crosshair were broken. Now a Leopold rest on top....

I had the same problem with a Leupold on my .300 win mag. The crossbars moved. I haven't bought another Leupold since. I'm sure there are lemons in every brand but I've never had another brand I had to send back for factory service.
