Was thinking of carrying my wife up there in Feb for our anniverary. I know nothing of the place. Anybody have any advice on where to stay and what to see? We're mid 50's and not thrill seekers. Please be specific on motoels and attractions.

We stayed at Patriots Point and went to see the USS Yorktown. Loved visiting the ship and the park. Also plenty of good food in that area!

Went there on our honeymoon and loved it. I swear I'd move there if I didn't have so many roots already here. Excellent low country food. People are nice and very laid back. Of course there are all kinds of historical buildings and such. We stayed at the Andrew Pinckney Inn. Very quaint and excellent location downtown. Walking distance to great restaurants, shops, attractions, and the open air market. Hotel staff was beyond compare.

Our anniversary is in February as well. Who knows, we may see y'all!

Free Trolley rides anywhere too. I drove in from N Charleston everyday and parked by Aqurium then walked or took trolley or water taxi.

Honeymooned there 24 years ago & my wife takes me back whenever I will go. First will discuss food. If you like she crab soup, I would recommend 82 Queen. Award winning and my favorite. Crab Shack on Market street is good as is Amen Corner and Hymen's for seafood. Cannot remember the bakery name on Market street but it is excellent for desert.

Market Street seems to be a must for the ladies. Kind of an upscale, open air flea market. The city museum is time well spent and I enjoyed viewing the Hunley. Fort Sumter is basically a pile of rubble in the middle of the bay (most see it once because of its historic significance). Patriots point is very cool. If you enjoy antebellum architecture pick a few plantations and townhouses to tour.

A carriage tour will earn brownie points. They are assigned zones as you leave so you never know which area you will see.

Very laid back town. Great for simply walking around the historic district.

To Do:
Market St
Yorktown
The Battery & White Point Gardens
Sullivan's Island
Go see the HL Hunley Sub
Fort Sumter

Eats:
If she likes deserts, go to Kaminsky's after dinner
Magnolia's for a fancier restaurant
Shem Creek on Mount Pleasant Side (Red's, Shem Creek Bar and Grill)
Hall's Chophouse
North of Broad
Tattooed Moose, small eclectic place, bar type food - but good dive

You've gotten some great rec's already.

1st and 10th honeymoons there. I suppose we'll do our 20th too.

3 days is enough to do everything.

I've heard it compared to Boston in terms of American History. There are few other places that have that early settler history. I've also heard people compare it to a clean NOLA. I love NOLA but agree that Charleston is a bit cleaner.

You'll get plenty of food recs. Magnolia is overrated in my opinion. SNOB was good. There's a steakhouse near SNOB that is great, cypress. Also, HUSK was named the country's number one new restaurant a few years ago. The chef has opened a place in Nashville now. I know a few years ago, you had to wait months to get reservations. Its in a house, so neat atmosphere. Hominy grill for heavy amazing breakfast.

Do a ghost tour. Kinda a fun walking tour at night, visit a few bars, hear a few far-fetched stories. Go outside the city and visit one of the low country plantations. I can't remember the one we went to but it was a fun 1/2 day.

The market pavilion hotel has a neat roof top bar right across form the old customs house. Definitely visit for a great view of the bay.

They are good. Got family up there. They had everything cleaned up and back to normal within a week. It was mostly just the market that was flooded bad.
